United have done well here. Watch him have a stormer tomorrow now.
Lovrens going to start tomorrow, realistically De Gea can stand with his back to the pitch looking into the stand for 90 minutes and they are going to fucking moonwalk it.

You never know, De Gea could get injured pre game whilst attempting to surf on the top of the team bus.

Well they now have 3 keepers in De Gea, Valdes and Romero probably earning about 350-400k a week between them.

They're becoming quite common now, this summer Benteke and Delph had one, and I think a few others had one but can't think of them. Stones will apparently get one in his new deal.

Must be a buyout clause agreed in there otherwise he's just fucked his career up agreeing to stay there and Madrid likely walking away.

Utd have come out of this in a fantastic position, they have kept their player of the year and he's now going to sign a contract which will guarantee them a decent fee if he does go, there is a chance they will keep him long term as well given that the release clause is likely to be as much if not higher than Madrid previously bid and they might not come back for him at the end of the season now.

Its terrible news for us and all their rivals and fucking typical that his first game back is against us considering how shit the back up looked against Swansea.

How could you possibly know any of that?

For all we know he's signed the deal given the release clause is identical to the bid made in the summer. Or even Madrid are in on it and it's set at a fee they've made clear they're willing to pay next summer.

Very happy with the news. I was hoping that the De Gea to Madrid deal collapses, and it did.

I rate De Gea as one of the top 3 keepers in the world, on last season's form, he probably was the best in the world considering Neuer's mistakes in the Barca game (though he also saved Bayern on several occasions). Regardless, De Gea is a keeper who has been winning points for his team for 2 seasons very consistently. Glad he is not going to be playing for Madrid.

De Gea pulling a 'Ramos' to perfection... using Real Madrid's interest as leverage for a bumper new contract at the biggest club in the world.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, I know you're joking but FML, he'll be a Real Madrid player this time next year.

There are some absolute pussy-holed, bitter, embarrassing bastards on this thread. It's cringey to come in here and see some of the comments from LFC fans. Have a word with yourselves.

There was no way on earth he wasn't going to sign a new contract - United will want to save face on this. It's a good test of how much Madrid want De Gea now. I suspect there's a release clause in that contract - perhaps specifically for Madrid and perhaps not for as much as he should be going for. If he does leave in the summer for Madrid then I would expect 'an undisclosed fee' to draw the line under this.

Quality keeper and United must be delighted they have kept hold of him.

Van Gaal seemed irked that the dialogue between him and his players had been viewed as a mutiny and to emphasise his point, he raised his voice in the press conference, mimicking the song the fans sing about him.

He added: “The fans are shouting every week ‘Louis van Gaal’s army! Louis van Gaal’s army!’. They are very satisfied with Louis van Gaal and the players are also satisfied with me.”

I'd expect a low release clause to be leaked ( £10/15m) probably only if Madrid or Barca come calling

Not 100% sure Madrid are committed to getting him as most think , that may change if their present keeper doesn't keep his good form up
No chance the release clause will be that low, it will be a world record fee for a GK and it will still be a bargain for whoever activates it. A win for everybody really.

Back dating he wages is about £10.5m and the increase for this season another £8.5m

So that's £19m they have given him than letting him go next summer

Of course he is, in fact he's the biggest winner. Wages up from £40K to £200K a week and backdated a year. Plus a signing on fee from Madrid if he chooses and a good position to negotiate wages with them as he's already on £200K they have to offer him more.

An interesting development but not one that has surprised me. There are numerous examples of players itching for moves and ending up signing a new deal. I think usually they don't only have 1 year left though.

The possibility he leaves next year is a strong one as that's often how it's gone but I wouldn't take it for granted. A lot can change in a year.

won't be that low after back dating his wages

Add another £20m now as cost you about that than letting him go in the summer and not increasing his wages from £35k to £200k

Mendez is no fool of an agent. Anyone thinking he allowed United to put in a high buy out clause is fooling themselves. He knows exactly what Real Madrid will do and i'd bet he made sure they were well covered.

Of course there is no way that DdG would have agreed to a buyout clause close to any figures that Man Utd would want for him. £10-15m tops.

That would be the natural train of thought but back dating his wages and I'd guess he also got a cut will see a decent fee but not as high as most Utd fans think

But if he stayed a free agent, he would have been able to play the clubs against one another ( maybe even get PSG in the bidding ) and got an even bigger signing bonus. Sure, he would have taken grief for it but meh.
