Southampton were the only team pressing tonight.

Whatever happened to: our energy, quick decisive passing, quick flowing dangerous breaks, goal threat and pressing?

All seems a very long time ago.

Not the end of the world. Only one mistake separating the sides in the end. I'm confident we will do better at Anfield. Some thoughts:

Can has been average or below for a long time now.
Lallana and Karius very good.
It's great to have Coutinho back
Really? For me only Karius emerges with any credit. We were awful in every aspect and very fortunate to not lose by a larger margin.

As shite as Burnley. Only the second time we've been absolutely abject all season though so that's a positive to take from it. Coutinho also got some much needed minutes in his legs. Onwards and upwards, lets smash the mancs at the weekend and everything will be rosy again.

He's been underperforming for so long now that you wonder if it's really "under"performing, or if he's just not going to make it here

Main problem tonight was the fluidity in the midfield with Can-Lucas in there. At times the sideway passing seemed an eternity to reach. It's no rocket science now teams will play that way against us...the blueprint would be two banks of four and try to catch us on the break.

Looked devoid of imagination and intensity again.

Worryingly I don't even think any signings during January would help.  The team as a whole simply isn't functioning at the moment.

The 68% possession stats might paper over things but the reality is Southampton have let us have the ball and swatted us away with ease.

Terrible. The only positive was Coutinho returning and Karius having a good game. Every other individual was below average and one or two abysmal.

What's most worrying is we look out of ideas.

Worst performance this season. Man for man we were woeful. Karius made a few decent stops, but apart from that the rest were shocking. Considering this was a semi final that was an appalling showing.

I would like to see some heavy metal football again. Because right now, we're replaying Perry Como and Val Doonican do fireside ballads.

Luckily, we got away with it, again. We won't on Sunday.

Only positive.. Karius had a good game.

rest is all shite.

Isn't the fact we have a great chance of getting to a final despite playing badly also a positive?

Comfortably one of our worst performances under Klopp, were it not for Karius the tie would be over.

Hopefully it isn't a sign of what to expect without Mane, it was just far too predictable tonight.  Surprised Wijnaldum was taken off rather than Emre Can who was awful.  Don't think Sturridge has done his chances of starting regularly for Klopp any good tonight either.

A huge improvmement is needed for Sunday.

Horror show, has to rank up there as one of the worst performances of the season. Absolutely nothing going forward whilst always looking suspect at the back. Karius is the only one that comes out with credit after that.

We were a bit pedestrian overall. Southampton moved the ball far quicker and created the better chances and probably should have scored another.
It reminded me of games last season where we could have played for another hour and still not scored.

Obviously its only half time and we now have home advantage but we need to improve as southampton can just sit deep and counter now.

Where do you start?

No cohesion. Sloppy passing. No penetration. Poor movement. Yet we got out of jail.

Worst performance of the season.

1-0 to them feels like a victory after that.

Came on to say the same thing. Actually a good result based on the performance and chances for both teams. They had the sort of chances we would normally create so fair play to them. They'll probably go 8 at the back at Anfield so we're going to need a bit of luck. If they score at Anfield going to be very difficult to break down with the way they set up against us.

I think the players were competing with each other to see who could be the worst in that match - even Klopp couldn't help but piss himself at some of our efforts at the end.

Southampton might rue not taking their chances though - still fairly confident we can go through.

The only two bright points to come from tonight is Karius's performance and Coutinho being back. But we badly need to find some form going into Sunday. Hopefully our captain will be fit though, he is essential for the next game.

Really? For me only Karius emerges with any credit. We were awful in every aspect and very fortunate to not lose by a larger margin.

Have to agree with this, everyone bar Karius was absolutely turgid. I normally try to find a few positives in our performances tonight but there was only one tonight and that was Karius.

Sorry to say but Emre Can was a fucking steaming pile of shit. Awful touch, slow to think and just kept losing the ball.

Love Lucas but him chasing Long and falling over (:lmao) shows his time here is pretty much up.

Oh and our central defenders also need a fucking rocket up each one of their arses...too many silly fucking errors we're competing for trophies this year so fucking focus!!

Something wrong somewhere. Missing Hendo certainly - but even Milner and Clyne aren't playing well.

The only regular who can be reasonably proud is Lallana.

well that was poor.
I dont think we have been on our game for a few weeks but tonight was an eye opener.

muscled off the ball every time by southampton. every 50/50 every man to man combat we came off second best for the whole 90. not good enough.

very sluggish at times too when we had possession. :butt :butt :butt

well a whole game to turn it about and ony a slender disadvantage. Its not impossible by any means but I am worried about sunday. Klopp has some work to do between now and then
