Thanks Franny/ John ... this has remained a profound concern since we first uncovered it on the Panel. There has never been a satisfactory explanation of his whereabouts. That he was being driven around Sheffield for over two hours makes no sense - nor do the scurrilous suggestions made on chat rooms. The fact of the matter is, as I stated in the interview, that the most senior police officer on duty, with minimal experience of policing Hillsborough, went missing from his post for a lengthy period in the build-up to the most important fixture at the stadium that year. Neither he nor his driver have provided even a minimal account for what can only be described as dereliction of duty. This, coupled with the disappearance of the minutes of the infamous 'handover' meeting (Mole to D) just weeks before the match, and the stone wall we came up against in trying to access records of what must have been multiple small group meetings between senior officers in the hours and weeks after the disaster, remain crucial gaps. On the latter there are minutes/ notes of three larger SYP meetings but I'm highlighting the small group meetings and phone calls that must have occurred on an hourly basis. Phil.
