Id love him to succeed and he could but just thinking the 5 year deal is not based on anything solid.

He's probably on peanuts when you look at what players actually want/earn so I don't see what's the fuss all about. There's not much risk to this and worst case is we sell him to a smaller club for very little.

John Stones 50 million quid from Toffees

Joe Gomez 3.5 million from Charlton

For crying out loud thats ridiculous, that be like signing Couhtino for 8.5 or some such undervalued thing. Signing Suarez for 50 plus one. Getting 50 million for Torres and his 4 goals a year. you name it. Its a snip the lads going to be class.  He played 3 practice sessions for Brendan and went straight into the first team, looked the part. Klopp is raving about him. Perfect.

It's probably based on the fact that Jurgen has watched this lad almost every day go through rehab, then training with a positive mentality and has shown a great willingness to learn, as well as the obvious talent he has shown in his early displays for this club.

But of course you have probably seen the lad play a few minutes here and there, now and again, during the odd match. So yeah it's clear Jurgen is basing this decision on nothing solid.

In his couple of appearances so far he's looked a touch rusty in some aspects but physically he still looks agile and quick which is a good sign given his injury. If he stays fit and develops like we hope then he'll be a regular in the team for many years. He's got so much potential.

I for one am delighted about this.

There's no way we'd have given him such a long contract if we weren't sure that his injuries haven't hampered his ability to reach the level required. Must be rated very, very highly amongst the decision-makers. Easy to forget that he's only 19 given how long he was out for. Don't mind throwing him into cup matches at all at centreback, which isn't bad going at all considering the risk that comes with the position and his age.

Spot on. I remember when Rodgers first played him, he looked very much in the Matip school of defending - calm, composed, never panics, plays it out from the back, and has a good footballing brain. Still only 19, and I think him and TAA could bode well for our defence for many years.

I'm just hoping he stays injury free and picks up the pace of his development.

And he's still 19 years old right?  The kid has a lot of development left in him and, while he will make mistakes along the way, Klopp will stick with him and he'll have every chance to become a great player at Liverpool.

That is all Gomez needs to learn from the best in order to be one of the finest central defenders in the world.   He could learn from the way of Matip, but it ain't from Lovern, Klaven or Sakho (if he's still here after the close of transfer window).

He's had the hype for 2 years, he's got the 5 year deal, now we'd like to see some of that justified. He was caught sleeping so many times today it was unreal, so passive. Trying to work why he bulked himself up in the gym if he's going be petrified every time he has to use it.

He's been here less than two season and spent most of that out with a serious injury.  A little bit of patience might be in order all things considered.

Don't think he played badly today personally, certainly don't think he was helped having Randall and Klavan on either side of him in the first-half given how badly they played and Lucas in front of him.  It was only his third first-team start since October 2015 so I'm sure there's a lot more to come from him in the years ahead.

Why does he have to justify any hype not of his own creating? I don't see him claiming to be the best defender at the club ( see Sturridge/strikers  for example). He's barely kicked a ball in the 2yrs you're talking about too.

Why are you comparing him to john stones, who has played a shite tonne of more football in the top league, hasn't suffered two long term injuries and has played for England?

I'm happy for joe and with a good run of games I'm sure he'll come good. He's understandable rusty right now and has come into the side at a terrible time.

Based on the Manager's and his coaches' opinions of Gomez' footballing abilities and potential, and on the remaining length of his previous contract?

But what do I know? I'm just a logically thinking human bean.
