It looks like they're under orders just to lean on Coutinho if anyone is remotely near him :/

Thought Sturridge would have started, should maybe bring him on.
One day, people will hopefully look back and say "I was there son. I was there the year that Spurs won nothing again."

That Van Dijk is some player, he'll be at a top club soon

Our first signing of the summer.

Think we'll still win this, it was never going to be easy against this well-drilled side but we're more than good for at least a goal. Perhaps even Sturridge coming in can make a difference.

They have put in a ridiculous amount of work in the first half. Let's see how they cope in the 2nd half when the spaces start to open up.

:o

Should have scored might be pushing it, but he looks off the pace somewhat this afternoon. Definitely exhibited some poor passing and decision making in and around the Southampton box. But he's had a 14,000 mile round trip for the South Africa game, so understandable.

Our passing has been poor (rain?). However that through ball by Wijnaldum to Mane...

Hopefully they tire and we can go ahead a goal to open things up.

Mané has had the best chances & with a bit more accuracy/sharpness we'd be 2-0 up.
The Saints have put a lot into that 1st half, hoping they will tire-that rain/pitch must surely take its toll eventually.
We'll fucking have these 2nd half.

Atkinson needs to give out a few yellows. They've little interest in doing any concerted attacking and he's letting them get away with cynicism.

Keep going and we'll be all right. This might be the game for Sturridge - just need a little bit more cleverness in the tight spaces, and maybe a moment of magic.

Their level of hatred towards Lovren is a bit weird.

Especially as they always insist they were happy to see the back of him.  :D

Draw written all over it. Fucking hate the international breaks.

Oh, and Southampton are the home team? Laughable, Puel has clearly been taking lessons from Mourinho. Utterly depressing, negative defensive football. Having said that, they were knackered heading into the break, so out fitness should open them up later on. Still has the feel of one of 'those' days...

If we can't improve, I expect Sturridge/Origi to come on soon.

Well, the way he agitated for a move from far from professional to be fair.
I get that they don't like him because of that but it seems to be a bit OTT don't you think.

Maybe I'm getting old ( I can remember football in the 70's) but I don't think they've been kicking the whatnot out of our players like some have said?

Would be a bit surprised to see Atkinson give out any yellows given that Clattenburg is refereeing.

Can and Wijnaldum can do better for us, Can chugs around the pitch but overruns the ball far too often. Wijnaldum just off the pace so far.

Firmino has won the ball back so often - he's such an asset in this system.

this saints side looks well drilled.

Their players cuntish with their tactical fouls too. The ref have been a bit too lenient.

i will take any goal at the moment. 3 points to stay top and pull away while the rest worry about catching us.

We're watching two quality teams playing quality football. It's a huge compliment to us that this is the most defensively Southampton have set up all season. They've still carried a threat on the break though, which we've dealt with very impressively so far, and we've carved out two chances through lovely football - the second Mane chance in particular was just class play all round (although Gini's touch for the first wants framing. His footballing IQ is off the charts, great game from him so far), and it's taken an absolutely top drawer save and saving tackle to keep us out. Pleasure to watch.
He is the cat who walks by himself, and all roads are alike to him.
