The Han Solo movie is going to reveal his real name. Whatever that means.

It's really Han Skywalker. They have form for retconning incest.

Amen brother :)

There are a few good videos spliced together from the promos, trailers and adverts into one (and done before the recent blu ray leak) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mPzBKG8wyE - not only highlighting the superb effects, but there is emotional connection there to what the Rebels are fighting for, beit their characters, backstory, cause or current plot of the film - even in the spaceship battles (which could have easily gone into Prequel and 'density' territory), and like you say some scenes surpass even the OT.

I'm looking forward to some of the coming fan edits for Rogue One - though seemingly it'll be mainly new title sequences, crawls, maybe some re-scoring here and there, and maybe a few shots lifted from the trailers etc - though doubt we'll be seeing much change at all for the actual film itself - it just doesn't require it.

(though would be cool to see those deleted/alternative/pre-reshot scenes in a future release someday soon)

Totally agree.  Most people I know love how the film ended on an epic high.  Maybe the main characters are a bit bland, and maybe they didn't all have to die, and some of the music is a bit weak - especially at the start - but these are niggles that don't detract from the film.  I see familiar, iconic imagery, but in a new way, so I feel I am seeing these things for the first time.

Hans' dad's dog's died??  ;D

Lovely little comparison video here illustrating what I said earlier about how Rogue One re imagines iconic OT visuals, through superior effects and also through storytelling that gives us a slightly different vantage point of the same or similar situations.  There's an epic Death Star shot at around 3.30 that I don't remember from the film.

^ nice video mate - I love that crawl from Celebration :)

the shot from around 3.30-ish - I don't remember it either - could it be from one of the new additions to the blu-ray editions of the OT? (I haven't watched them in ages - I only really watch the DeSpecialised Editions)

Great video!  Ironic seeing how many people have made "modern" trailers of the OT!  ;D

Whilst a lot of special effects from the OT have been cleaned up and added to, it's still amazing how 30 year plus old films like ESB and RotJ still stand up compared to Rogue One.  Watching the highlight video you sense a real effort not to overpower the audience with dazzling shots.  It's restrained, so you can keep track of exactly what it going on.  It reuses motifs, but not in a ham fisted way that suggests it's just ripping off the previous films.  For me, it pushes all the nostalgia buttons in a way the prequels never did and TFA managed only rarely.

^ definitely feeling the love, care and attention given from the Rouge One designers and set crew - even these briefly seen, and easy-to-overlook user interfaces in the background - https://www.wired.com/2017/01/check-hi-res-shots-rogue-ones-gorgeous-interfaces/#slide-1

a couple of shots (gifs) of what is likely to become some fairly iconic/memorable moments from the space battle in Rogue One (obviously, do not click on if you haven't seen the film):-

Watched it again over the weekend - loved it, which was the polar opposite to when I watched it in the cinema! Probably my favourite one out of all of them now in fact.

If you're a fan of the recent 'big sleeve' edition (12" vinyl size) of some recent Disney releases this may be of interest - or just something a little different from the normal dvd/blu ray releases...
