Fan tribute walkway at Anfield
« on: June 20, 2016, 02:48:54 pm »

Liverpool FC has today confirmed it is exploring the feasibility of creating a specially designed walkway featuring fan tributes at Anfield.

The club has submitted a planning application providing further details on the proposed scheme, which would enable supporters to purchase a personalised granite stone in the Main Stand’s new public realm.

Submitted as part of the feasibility studies, the application seeks consent to install the stones where fans can gather together and enjoy the special Anfield atmosphere before the game.

The granite walkway featuring fan messages would form part of the public realm, which has been designed to reconnect the stadium to nearby Stanley Park and the local community.

Another feature of the proposals would see the installation of granite benches outside the Main Stand, incorporating artwork celebrating key moments and players from the club’s history.

Always thought something like this would happen. Wonder what the cost will be. My guess in the hundreds.

People don't have to pay if they don't want to...

It's not like shirts where parents are under pressure from kids to buy them, or tickets (which is obviously a key element of supporting the club).

If people don't want to pay, don't pay. Not exactly "rinsing the fans".

"Tribute"?   ;D  That's FSG's new definition of "tribute". Con-tribute.

A "tribute" would be the club engraving the names of 20-25 year season ticket holders on the granite stones....as a tribute to their loyalty.

Will they be seeking a corporate "tribute"  for the new stand?  ::)

Could have given them to long term season ticket holders for free, could have raised money for charity etc etc, but they're lining their own pockets again

I cringed when I saw the 'granite wall' at Goodison.  I walked past it with my brother taking the piss out of it some time last season, thought to myself, won't be long before we do it.

Corrected slightly.

Not really a fan of this if I'm honest, but if it brings in money which pays off the new stand quicker then so be it. No one is being forced to buy one, I'm not particularly interested in having one (even if it was free to me as a 25+ yr ST holder as someone mentioned).

Would have preferred if they did bricks like, I think, Sunderland did, which then were used to build part of the stand.

My dad supported the club all his life until he passed away in 2002. He made sure I was brought up to be a 'Red' and helped The Harry sell loads of ale on match days. I wouldn't mind having something in his memory but I doubt I'll have enough cash for one of their stones. Still his season ticket is used by his grandson now so he lives on in a way.

Am I missing something? People talking about it like it's just another way to rinse more money out of fans but if there are 1000 of these at £100 a pop, that's what? Less than a week of Benteke's wages? I mean the numbers may well vary but we're not exactly talking about some big money spinner are we?

I doubt that's the reasoning behind it, and I'm usually fairly cynical with these things.

But what is the big deal? It just some stones on the street to fleece men and women with too much money. Doesn't affect the average matchgoer in any capacity. It's the same with luxury boxes. They exist, but who gives a shit? They provide income to the club, and that will be that.

Ticket prices are a totally different story however.

This is a take it or leave it idea...

I know what I'd have....

I'd have something about my grandad who was born and brought up in lothair road.  Would be nice to have a stone about him right outside his old house.

But I'm too tight, so I won't.

You're only allowed to stand on your own, with middle spots being given to those with longer legs. You have to input your inside leg measurement when you order.

No way.

The original is granite. Have you priced granite out?

That may be the additional cost for a replica and the replica won't be granite.
