Albert Riera
« on: September 3, 2011, 12:19:17 pm »
Was reading he has signed for Galatasaray.

That's a few ex reds who have gone on to make careers in Istanbul; Baros, Song, Kewell and now Riera.

Like most people I have mixed emotions over Albert, talented technical player. Shame it never worked out because at times he looked like a really good left winger.

Good luck to him hope it all works out.

He was decent and I remember him giving Keane a bollocking on the pitch and Keane looked like a little school kid - I felt sorry for him and thought who the F are you to be dishing out the criticism!

I'd have allowed fucking Ruddock to give Keane a bollocking, such was my disdain for his attitude on the pitch

Apparently hit him. Riera was under rated..not the greatest player in the world, but gave us natural width and with him in the side we always looked better

Really? His first six months with us he was amazing. He brought us the required width and was the reason we went top of the table. After that, he went a bit downhill but still kept us going on that winning run. His second season with us wasn't great but, apart from Lucas and Reina, I don't know anyone else who had a good season then.

yea he hit Pacheco in training and then claimed to not have a clue as to why Benitez was freezing him out.

to be honest the guy just tries hard for the first 2 or 3 months, after that he just stands around clenching his ass together half the time.

Good player with a bad attitude, enjoyed watching him play for us though, scored some wonderful goals for the club and some of his footwork was sublime. Even without being the quickest he was very good at getting himself past players

never forget the cheeky flick over james milners head next to the corner flag, wonderful touch

Seemed a decent player, like many though did not seem to be able to deliver consistent performances. Did not do himself many favours running to the papers with his complaining about Rafa either.

Not really set the world alight since he left either. One of those that will go down as - "a shame it didn't work out"

Haven't really got any lasting memories of the guy, started off brilliantly enough, can remember that goal against Villa? from Pepe's long distribution, and twatting Pacheco. That's pretty much it.

Wish him well there I suppose...

DJphal if I remember correctly. He usually gets stuff right as well.

Always found it slightly puzzling 'cos Rafa started Riera against someone (Spurs?) after it had happened.

I wasn't sure on Burrows, so I checked it, and it was actually Barry Venison who played there, not Burrows.

Friedel, Xavier and Song also played there at some point. Nearly getting a full side together now.

Quote
That outburst was the final straw for an enraged Benitez, as Riera was recently involved in a training ground bust-up with an unnamed young member of Liverpool’s squad that appalled witnesses to the incident.

Riera is understood to have landed at least one blow on the youngster.

Nothing alleged about it I'm afraid.

I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

He was a decent player. Started very well but then faded as time went on. Inconsistency, poor attitude and lazyness contributed to his downfall.

To be honest, I don't understand all this "good luck" crap thats been spouted on here recently for players who contributed sod all to our club. I find it unbelievably cringeworthy. Riera, if memory serves me right tore into Liverpool calling it a 'sinking ship', openly criticised Benitez in the press and tarted himself around every club in Europe.

No good luck here - just good riddance to a very minor footnote in our history.

:) Decent, but think I remember Xavier was there for a bit but didn't know Big Brad was as well!

Regarding Riera he should have kept his mouth shut and if rumours are to believed he should not be fighting with Pacheco. However I don't think he was wrong at the time, we were a 'Sinking Ship' and also I bet plenty of scuffles happen in training that we never hear about.

Personally I hope he does good in Turkey.

His eyes are a bit like that of Ozil, but that bad.

It's also shocking to remember that he was called to Spanish NT squad. Really shocking considering how many talented midfielders and wingers they had. He was decent, but not better than others.
