Just passed the 2 month mark, been a few near misses on nights out but I found a solution for if I'm tempted (and all my mates head out to the smoking area in a club) which is to ask one of them if I can roll their fag for them.  Keeps my hands busy and by the time I've put the tobacco that close to my nose/mouth without lighting up the smell is enough to discourage me.

My mum has been a regular smoker since she was about 16. She turns 60 this year and has recently, without any fanfare, tried to give up.

Three weeks now and i'm hugely proud of her. She's guzzling the champix but doing well i think.
It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here/ and i'm most obliged to you for making it clear/ that i'm not here

I'm really surprised that this thread has not been bumped yet. Especially with it being New Year and all.

Anyway, I had my last ciggie at about 4am on the 1st of Jan, and since then ive not had one. I have had the odd craving here and there, but other than that ive done ok.

I bought LOADS of chewies, also bought a brand new leccy toothbruth & some decent mouthwash to help me on my way.

Used to smoke about 10 per day (which is not that much), but it still counts.

I'm basically sick of playing footy and actually being limited to what i can do due to fitness & also being able to breathe.

I have started running (when i can get out and safely run with no f*cking ice) and trying to play footy as much as possible to get fit.

I also got bored of smoking too, decided it was time to end it all.

Side note, has anyone else experienced more illnesses since quitting or during the duration of quitting?

How about CRAZY dreams? Since New Year i have had absolutely f*cking mental dreams.

Anyone else had anything similar?

Fair play to ya giving up Jimmy. Was off them for 3 years before i went travelling and then started taking a few drags here and there when i was SE Asia and before i knew it i was buying them again. Back on them about 3 years now but defo have intentions of giving up again but not mentally prepared for it yet. Only really got mad dreams when i gave up smoking weed. Best of luck with it anyway.

Any chance those dreams are so mad as you're aren't drinking?

I dont reckon so.

I'm not a big drinker anyway. Well, when i say 'big' i prolly get pissed once a month on average. BUt when i do i get hammered.

Doubt its got anything to do with the drink.

I also quit weed over 3 years ago. This is when it was replaced with the ciggies.

Just thought you might have hit the drink hard over crimbo and calmed down a bit over the last week. I know that's what's happened to me, i've been having weird fucking dreams. I actually dreamt the bitters beat us 4-1 in Anfield the other night.

been going a week sunday.

i was on about 20 a day for the last 12 or so years and have tried quitting before but never been able to. my mum quit about 6 months ago after smoking 30 a day for the last 35 years, just woke up and said she'd had enough, so when my girlfriend suggested i cut down i thought fuck it if my mum can do that then there's no reason i can't, so i decided follow her example and just pack it in all together, go cold turkey.

pretty fucking chuffed with myself so far, although it's been made a bit easier by the fact i've been sick since the day i quit (a coincidence) - not that that's ever stopped me smoking before. had a bit of difficulty on weds at darts 'cus i was drinking and everyone else was smoking, then played poker and had a few beers last night. managed to get through it ok but got a bit annoyed about something last night so ended up having one drag or 3 on my brothers cigarette on the way home... it was nasty at the time and my mouth tasted disgusting this morning, so i can't see myself having any trouble from now on.

oh, and the thing that has shocked me the most so far, is how bad smokers actually smell. when i was smoking it was a different kind of smell but standing next to people who had just had a cig outside whilst we were in a smoke free room was like standing next to a stale ash tray.

End of November I had a mild heart attack. Doc told me that if  I didnīt stop smoking I would be dead soon.
That was the kick in the arse I needed, to stop smoking after 35 years.
I was on at least 30 a day and increasing, rollies as well, not tailor made.
When the Doctor told me to stop I shit myself, as I imagined myself crawling up the walls, or bin dipping for fag ends, curled up on the sofa with the DTīs. But Iīm very surprised how easy itīs been for me. Itīs been over 7 weeks now and I donīt get any cravings or longing for a ciggie, just the very rare impulse to light one up, which is gone after a couple of seconds.
And I didnīt touch a nicotine patch or any other supplements to aid me, just stopped there and then. And weīve still got tobacco in the house.

Almost exactly the same for me too.

Agreed, its a strange thing once you come out the other side and try to work out why you smoked in the first place. Can't imagine myself ever smoking again, it would just feel wrong on so many levels..

I've not had a ciggy since July last year.

One treatment of acupuncture was all it needed.

I've had acupuncture of some but it hasn't worked, but I believe there are different types.

This fella who treated me in July does Nada acupuncture which treats addiction.
Worked brilliantly for me.

I read people connecting loss of weight and smoking together? what is it? Because I gained weight a lot faster when I quit for nearly 2 months, not that I ate too much, but I didnt work out a lot too, are these things connected??... I don't really smoke much 1 per day in routine, 2/3 per day on the most boring day (once in like a month) 2/3 when I go drinking but it is an addictive thing for sure (been on it for 5 years)... so want to quit, and in my defense I have done it 2 3 times for more than a month,  but whenever I hit the road with friends for a trip, the urge is impossible... :(

Gave up just today. I'm 33 and been smoking since 16 or so. Was off them for a year on two different occasions and really focused on beating the addiction this time once and for all. Along with the obvious health benefits im robbed from the bloody things. Euro 8.65 for 20 here at the moment.

Usually would have gotten through 5 or 6 fags by now.

Slightly dizzy at times and a bit lightheaded but heading to the gym soon so that should help.

Anyway, just said id leave y'all know, anybody else given the bastards up recently?

Haven't had a smoke for two days now, head's all light and airy (oxygen apparently) - actually makes you feel quite giddy.

How much longer does this feeling last for? and when will i hopefully not have this monumental urge for a fag?

how many were you smoking a day befor mate?? i found the light and airy feeling lasted me about 4 days but everyone diff, i have not had a cig for 14 days now
and get yourself some polo mints etc for when you get the urge for a cig, and also think do you really want to give up the hard work you already put in just to have a 5 min ciggie. you will find the answer will be no plus do you want to smell have smelly clothes etc

Smoked about 10 a day, i've got lots to pick at and keep my hands occupied.

Do you still have urges after 14 days on a daily basis? or has it become much easier mate?
