As much as I loved TPAB, I needed Kendrick on some great production and going back to GKMC rhymes.

Yeah man, that track's sick, love the beat. Can't wait for the new album.

And I think I know what you mean, TPAB was an incredible body of work, hugely impressive in its scope and variety, but I think I prefer GKMC to listen to - it seemed a bit more traditional, which is what I go for mostly. Nothing wrong with a straight-up banger at all, that's a large part of why I listen to rap.

Anyone looking forward to Joey Bada$$ new album All-Amerikkkan Badass? From what I've heard it sounds like his best work yet.

its incredible. exploring mutliple themes and emotions per tracks. the sore thumb is loyalty which, though important to the overall narrative of the album, doesnt work musically for me.

other than that, its just goat kendrick. That beat on XXX, the ending on duckworth. PRIDE / LUST. Its a shade below GKMC / TPAB but thats not a stick to beat it with, being a touch player 2 of the greatest modern rap albums.

All of this is very true, but it's so similar to his other earlier work, similar beats, similar themes discussed, nothing new but that's just from listening to it a couple of times I might be missing something.

I'll listen to it tomorrow. Not really had the opportunity to do so yet.

I really enjoyed TPAB but I'm not in the crowd which considers it his best work, for me thats GKMC and if this is a return to that then that's good news for me.

Damn is a good album but I think most would agree it doesn't quite reach the highs of GKMC or TPAB. No shame in that like, it's still a good effort.

Don't think I've really 'figured' it out yet in terms of themes and narrative. Might do on my next listen but I'm not sure if there's anything glaringly obvious throughout the tracks like his storytelling on Good Kid or say the poem on Butterfly. Anyone?

Not sure myself, need to listen it to it a few more times.

But it's not a classic, it's not something that I can listen to over and over again. There are some enjoyable tracks.

I know it's a big comparison, but for instance Nas albums, I can listen to at any time, and not have to think about what the message is, it's clear and evident whatever it is.

Kendrick is masterful at rhyming, but his flow at times can be tedious to listen to.

Know exactly what you mean mate. Don't know why, I recognise he's very good, and his albums have been very well put together musically... He just exhausts me for some reason. It's a strange one. Think it might be his voice for me.

I think you are right about the voice, there's certainly something mate that doesn't allow me to fully enjoy it. The standout tracks are Humble,DNA and Feel for me so far.

i like the last track, the way it comes full circle

However because he's being thorough telling the story it's forced and stretched as hell in places. There's a few time's that happens, other time's i get the impression he's trying to be too clever sonically, just for the sake of it.

Still enjoying it though.

I've listened to Kendrick's new album a few times now and it's certainly something that takes a few listens. But despite that I think it's a fucking quality album, had it on constantly for a couple of days now since the initial few listens.

One of the greatest ever without doubt.

Fucking love the Kendrick album. Full play through. I liked a few tracks off Butterfly, but I was in the camp that was flabbergasted at the fact people were praising it as a classic.

To each their own, I guess.

The new Brother Ali album's pretty good, nice, uplifting stuff, good wordplay, a little bit preachy in places but not as political as I thought it'd end up being. No autotune either, which is exactly what I want and makes it a Faberge egg in terms of modern hip hop and he remains the blackest-sounding  whitest white man (dude's albino) in rap. Worth checking out if you're into that late 90s/early 2000s sound.

Would like to get your opinions on the following? The bigger lad is my mates little bro, they played their first gig last week and have been asked to play the biggest festival in Ireland as well a few smaller ones off the back of it. It's all a big piss take but I'm nearly sure the fans they have think they're dead serious.

They're hilarious. Reminds me of scally rap shit me and my mates used to do, we did bilingual English/Welsh raps about drugs and sheep and called ourselves the Gog Posse. Never made it big for some reason...

Those kids are much better than we were. And they're Irish as opposed to Welsh, so that's an advantage right there. Best of luck to 'em.

Still his best album for me, best produced and he is in his prime and not just rapping about childish shit like he did on SSLP and MMLP.

His Magnum Opus for me.

Certainly his last great album.

Mad to think he'd only been out a few years(in terms of mainstream album releases) and here we are 15 years later and he hasn't come close to them. It's not so much about subject matter but his flow and rhyme scheme fucked up after the Eminem Show
