And of the 12 episodes only two were written exclusively by writers who hadn't worked on the show prior to this year. The rest were written by people who have been on the show since at least 2009.
Then the 2 new writers are shit, don't understand the character or nuances of the show, and the remaining writer has run out of ideas, which is why Series 6 has completely jumped the shark.
What next? Dexter in some Ray Bans, leathers, on a top of a Harley, with a shotgun on the back of it going after murderers? Hasta La Vista Babeee!!!
With shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, and even something like BSG, it was the quality of the writing and originality of ideas that set them apart as well as logical character development and storylines. Series 1-5 of Dexter were superb in every way, though Series 4 shows occasional signs of iffiness in relation to the 'Trinity' character (who came across a bit like a fluffy grandad character). Series 5 picked up again with the Lumen relationship and the creepy Jordan Chase character, but Series 6 has taken it things down several levels of poor quality writing, plots made up during the writer's lunch hours, and implausible character development. There were occasional flashes of quality but on the whole it became increasingly bad. The whole switcheroo of the characters' roles down at the police was also just stoopid and just straighjackets all the characters.
