It's an interesting stance to take which perhaps he hasn't thought through. And its difficult to discuss without turning this thread in to a political debate.
However, in terms of G4S - what if there are contractual obligations which the council can't withdraw from without financial penalties. And how quickly are they able to identify sufficient replacements in time within legal procurement time-scales? The alternative to cancel the event was probably never an option because the City actually does care about its "social & cultural services".

Regarding closure of Libraries - like every single resident in the city, PW would have had an opportunity to look at an on-line tool that allowed us all to attempt to balance the councils budget once the Tories have viciously cut £156m from this city over the next 3-years. That's in addition to over £140m that was previously snatched from us. Using that said budget balancing tool, had PW opted to retain the library the impact would have been to reduce available budget for children's or adults social care.

Perhaps he should stick to performing mate :) .

Went to see Burt Bacharach last weekend- loved it.  Bit gutted that they ran a few of his out and out classics into medlies, but the songs still sound great. His singers (two women and one bloke) were decent enough, but it was brilliant when the man himself did a bit of the singing, the word seemed to mean that little bit more. He seemed to have a genuine affection for the city- even asking the audience what we thought of Suarez going- and making reference to the Blob Shop! Two and a quarter hours of timeless tunes, very pleasant way to spend a Sunday evening :)

Hello all - looking for any decent recommendations for gigs next Friday and Saturday (18-19/9) as I'll be in town.  Passing through for a quick visit before heading to London for Kate Bush on the 23rd!

Open to most genres and happy to (prefer to!) check out local bands - I am admittedly a little on the older and shorter side so venues with a seated area is preferred but not essential.

Thanks in advance.

My mate got a few of these while I was at work.  paid a tenner for guaranteed entry for 3 gigs and got 1 for free so I'm going to see John wizards, the antlers, peaking lights and liars got £2.50 each so I can't complain.

http://m.seetickets.com/event/festival-closing-party/various-liverpool-venues/802837  that looks really good as well, just a shame that it's the same day as the Newcastle game

I saw them as a support at leaf a few months back and wasn't bowled over to be honest. Embarrassingly i was saying as much on the way out when I passed one of the band on the stairs. He was asking us why we thought that and why we weren't keen, it was awkward as fuck. Seemed like a really nice fella though so good luck to them and I haven't written them off by any stretch, that was one of their first ever gigs so I'll deffo give them another go.

Alvvays were good yeah. I found it quite funny that the weakest song in both band's sets was in waltz time.

Also going Peaking Lights, though I'm not particularly fond of the new LP so far. Interested to see what they come up with live.

Only just saw this, looks like there are a few of us with excellent taste on this thread!  What did you think of Peaking lights then? Seemed to be more 'clubby' and dance than what I was expecting for the set. First time I have been the Kaz as well, good venue. I am really looking forward to the Antlers on Tuesday, just a shame it's on the same night as the carling cup

I liked them, it was very clubby but in an old school electro kind of way, which I liked.  I think her vocals add a lot too.  As for the Kazimier its my favourite venue in Liverpool by some distance, not too big, good views from pretty much everywhere because of all the different levels, and a decent and affordable bar.

I'm now missing Antlers and going to the footy which is a bit of a bummer as Antlers were the band I wanted to see most out of the three, but the economics of wasting a £28 footy ticket or giving away a £3.33 gig ticket won out in the end.  Interested to see which Liars turn up, seen them a few times before and they've been completely different every time. Most memorably when we saw them in the old Korova just before Drums Not Dead came out and they were a threesome which included two drummers (some feat if anyone remembers how small the Korova venue and stage was).  It was full-on percussive assault that so divided opinions that two of my mates ended up having a stand up row about it (much to the amusement of the rest of us).

I don't think any one enjoyed them as much as the guy in the suit who just seemed to dance for hours but it was a good little set, just not what I was expecting. The antlers are the main one for me which is why I did the opposite to you and returned my ticket for the Swansea game. ( I'm not out of pocket or I would have done what you did).

The bar is great and a good selection, just strange the way it's sports on one side but for gigs it seems to be the perfect venue. Never actually got to go the old korova but I can imagine how that must have looked on stage from the way you described it. I think I would quite like it if they played a full on percussive assault again but maybe that's just me.

So the antlers where class despite the fact that the singer apologised at the beggining for having a sore throat so his vocals wouldn't quite be at his best. I quite enjoyed the band before them but can't remember the name of them for the life of me.

Pretty sure that when the girl next to the stage was shouting 'lead singer is fit' and 'antlers are boss' they thought they where getting heckled though!

Really good last night at the Kazimir, best night of the week in my opinion. Barberos are class though I have no idea how to describe them to someone who hasn't saw them live but I would definitely see them again. Liars where really good as well, fantastic set by them.

Some of you might already be aware of them but King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are playing EVAC (shit venue for them but oh well) soon, next week or two I think.   I just caught them at Airwaves and they were incredible.  There's seven or eight of them, two drummers, very psych and just brilliant live.
