Trying to find the L'Equipe link, they broke the news.

Great signing for Roma. 10 million too, thats a massive bargain. Gago could be on the way to the capital as well.

Inter have also signed Kucka from Genoa on a co-ownership deal.

Yeah, he's a fantastic player. And really adds to the argument that Lyon are actually struggling. He'll become a top, top player and I'll be amazed if Roma manage to hold on to him for 3+ years

Hi Guys,

Anyone got some time to talk through the Roma signings this summer?  Seems very interesting.

How do you think they will perform under Enrique?

Roma will be very interesting to watch this year. They are already out of Europe after losing to some Slovakian team (I think its disgusting how Italian teams treat the Europa League), apparently Totti is not getting on well with the coach Enrique, and when people don't get on with Totti they are usually the ones leaving (ie. Ranieri, Cassano. etc). At the end of the day, Totti is bigger than Roma - bigger than the fans, bigger than the coach. This 'honour' is thoroughly deserved after everything that Francesco has done for the club, but it is going to prove detrimental to them in the future, as he gets older and demands a first team spot. Also, the Marco Borriello situation will also have a negative affect on the team after he was put on the transfer list and voiced his concerns about it, and also the issue of talisman De Rossi's contact expiring next year (there will be riots if he leaves on a free next season). They are staying - till January at least. Not everything is doom and gloom however for the Giallorossi, which brings me to their impressive signings:

INS

Quote
Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax) 6.3 million euros
Bargain signing in my opinion. For 6 million, he is one of the best keepers in Europe and definate upgrade on Doni/Julio Sergio/Curci. Will prove to be a solid signing for sure.

Gabriel Heinze (Marseille) Free
Strange signing. Im guessing they had to replace Mexes somehow, so they went and signed Heinze. Very clumsy, and hes getting on in age, I cant see this working out - a definate downgrade on Mexes and surprisingly there only centre signing, a position in which they are really weak in. Still not complaining.

Jose Angel (Sporting) 4.5 million euros
Rumoured to be on the way to Barca before signing for Roma, so he must be pretty decent. Relatively young and should do the job at left back where he'll be first choice after Riise left. Haven't seen too much of him so I can't comment.

Simon Kjaer (Wolfsburg) Loan, option to buy
Strange one. Flourished at Palermo, but struggled in Germany. I have a feeling this is either going to be a genuis move or a disaster. Still on loan, so they can always send him back if they want to. Classy ball playing CB on his day.

Fernando Gago (Real Madrid) Loan, option to buy
Happy for Gago, I like him as a player and for the last 2 years hes stagnated big time. Should be a welcome addition and will provide competition for their other little maestro David Pizzarro.

Pjanic (Lyon) 11 million euros
The Bosnian could be the signing of the season, in terms of value. An absolute bargain on Romas part, this guy is still only 21, hes been around for ages. A class act, he was valued at around 30 million a year ago or so, so kudos to Roma for getting a great deal.

Erik Lamela (River Plate) 12 million euros
Another highly rated Argentinian who flourished in Rivers relegation campaign last year. Still only 20, he is supposed to be very good on the ball, but to be honest I havent seen much of him to comment with any real conviction.

Bojan Krkic (Barcelona) 12 million euros
He will get alot of playing time, and a real chance to see how good he is. On the fence with this one, he has definite talent, but if he couldn't shine with the all star Barca team, hes gonna have to work hard to show his real talent. Make or break season for him IMO. Should link up well with Totti and provide a potent partnership.

Fabio Borini (Parma) Loan
Strange one as he just moved to Parma a few months ago. Looked good for Swansea when I watched him last season, but can he step up, I'm not sure.

Osvaldo (Espanyol) 17 million euros
Kind of the opposite to Kjaer, in that he struggled in Italy, but flourished in Spain with Espanyol. Even in the Serie A you could see this guy had talent (I remember an awesome overhead kick he scored), but was very inconsistent. He seems to have matured overseas, but I still think the fee is a bit excessive.

Borriello (Milan) 10 million euro
They signed him before Enriques appointment. Enrique said he doesn't fit in with his style of play and was thus put on the transfer market. Will barely play and will probably be shipped off in January.

OUTS

Quote
Doni (Liverpool) Free
Decent keeper but nothing more. Was not even first choice last season

John Arne Riise (Fulham) 2.8 million euros
Was probably one of their most consistent players in the past 2 years. Strange that they sold him off for pittance. I think they will miss him, especially if the Angel signing doesn't work out or he gets injured

Phillipe Mexes (Milan) Free
Big loss IMO. Heavily criticised by alot of critics and football fans (including me), but he has been a wonderful servant for the Romans. He truly is class on his day, bar the odd concentration lapse, and I feel Roma will miss him alot. Furthermore, they let him go to a rival in AC Milan.

Jeremy Menez (PSG) 8 million euros
A good player on his day, but very inconsisnent with poor end product and questionable attitude (but undeniable talent). This one was coming as he fell out with the fans, so they got rid and brought in more than suitable replacements (eg Lamela, Pjanic, Bojan)

Mirko Vucinic (Juventus) 15 million euros
Huge loss again. Inevitable considering he put in a transfer request, but hes been brilliant for the past 5 or so years for Roma. Still they have replaced him pretty well so the loss hasn't been too big

Finally, I think Roma can be proud of their transfer market this summer. They still won't win the title, but they've set themselves up with a young and exciting team and a long term plan. It will prove to be a very interesting season for the AS Roma this year, no doubt.

Some good prospects there for Roma, look forward to seeing more of Pjanic as didn't watch much Ligue 1 last year. Jose Angel's a good signing too.

Nocerino to Milan for 500k is a massive bargain. Couldn't believe it but contract running down and gave Palermo co ownership of another player.

Little bump for AC Milan v Lazio tonight.

Quote
TEAM NEWS

Milan are without Mathieu Flamini due to a long-term knee injury and Philippe Mexes, Mark van Bommel and Taye Taiwo are also unavailable. Brazilian forward Robinho is a fitness doubt but in midfield Alberto Aquilani or Antonio Nocerino could earn a debut for the Rossoneri.

Lazio have a minor concern over French striker Djibril Cisse who is nursing a sprained ankle and fellow summer signing Miroslav Klose may be short of fitness after representing Germany during the international break. Lazio are definitely without Lorik Cana, Stefan Radu and Marius Stankevicius.

MANAGER QUOTES

Massimiliano Allegri: "Lazio will be fighting for the title, they're a strong side and like us they’ve been playing together for a year. Klose and Cisse will bring something new to the team. They’ll come here and I expect an open game. I don’t think they’ll play mainly in their own half as they did last season and so I expect a good game."

Edy Reja: "Klose and Cisse are great players. We have a strong squad and if we stay focused then we can put Milan into a lot of difficulty. They are favourites, but this is a game that can tell us where we are at this stage of the season. It is an important test for us and we hope our attitude will be different to last year."

Milan confirmed XI: Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Silva, Antonini; Gattuso, Ambrosini, Aquilani, Boateng; Cassano, Ibrahimovic.

Lazio confirmed XI: Bizzarri; Konko, Biava, Dias, Zauri; Ledesma, Brocchi; Mauri, Hernanes, Cissč; Klose.

Not on ESPN or Sky for me.  :(

Looks like I will have to watch a stream.  :-\
