Restless leg syndrome (RLS)
« on: November 24, 2009, 01:00:26 am »
I don't know if anyone knows what it is, I didn't until a few days ago when it started.

When I get tired or sometimes when I'm relaxed, the muscles in my left leg start to twitch slightly. Like I've got ants running around inside the leg. At first it was just a little annoying, like when a limb goes numb. But it's getting more and more frequent and what's worse is that it is affecting my ability to sleep. If I go to bed I'll either lie there twitching for twenty minutes, wishing I had a chain saw to get rid of the damn leg, and then fall asleep OR I'll have bigger trouble fallin asleep and only get a few hours rest. And that's really horrible, because sleep deprivation is NOT good. It's caused me headaches, loss of awareness and stupid shit like that.

Annoying shit. Anyone else had/has it? Are there cures, what are they?

I'm at a point where I just want to bash my own head right the fuck in to escape this hell.

Had it after I, nearly, ruined my knee. Nerve twitches like I was playing the bass drum. Got a slight muscle relaxant and it worked magic for me. And if all else fails, there's always the old Rhino tranquilizers.

I've got this many a time, mostly when I'm exhausted really to be honest. I don't get in when trying to sleep though, mostly just when I'm still/lying down on the couch.

It's so irritating really isn't it. You just can't keep your leg still for more than 10 seconds.

I feel your pain brother!

I get it when I'm on long haul flights a lot. Even after walking and stretching. Very irritating. I think some cases are caused by some sort of deficiency in your diet. Not sure though.

Never suffered from that particular problem, Ackbaria.  But many nights I go to lie down and experience a little pain in my knees, particularly the left.  Always put it down to the fact that I fucked them up in my teens, playing sport.

She's not getting my money.

Probably not diet, I eat when I should and what I should. Probably not mental exhaustion or physical for that matter. Must be genetic or something :/

I get this in my right leg if I sit down on the sofa with my legs stretched out for an hour or so.  I've found the only thing that seems to lessen the feeling is if I tense all the muscles in my leg for about 10 seconds.
Sit down, shock is better taken with bent knees.

Try alprazolam(Xanax) , its a muscle relaxant and has sedative properties too. Ask your  GP to prescribe it. You can also take 25 mg promethazine tabs to help induce sleep and its available otc.
How do i know?. My fiancee is a doctor(Neurology) ;)

RLS is a nuero nervy condition I think. Try a bit of Yoga mate as it's good for such conditions. Not RLS but nuero nervy conditions in general.

Do you have lots of caffiene?  Valerian root is good I hear. Macuna Pruriens may be of some help.

Try these.

Soak your legs in cold water when it's happening.  Get back into bed and hope you fall asleep before it starts up again.  Works 60 percent of the time every time.

I've had it for years, anyone else get it in their arms as well?

I'm reluctant to say this as it seems irrational, but it works for me, even if it's just placebo:  I think keeping your nails short makes for less attacks.
