Hendo is a must, I would play him in CM to help out defensively when Villa are counter attacking

I can see Coutinho, Sturridge, aspas opening them up inside the first 5 mins.

Stay focused without any fuck ups ala Agger vs Stoke, and stay tight into benteke.

Anything more that 6m for Joe Allen and we have been ripped off.

Loads of Joe allens out there.

I would like to see him stay at Swansea myself and see if he can have another decent season. He is a championship player - players like a championship player.

Dominic King reckons Cissokho will start.

I can't see it seeing as he's not long been here. Fancy he'll be starting against County in the league cup.

The fixture list has been kind to us, Stoke at home to start then Villa away who have played Chelsea midweek. We really should be taking all three points from this.

I disagree. Villa are a dangerous side, especially against attacking teams because of their counter attacking style. Obviously we want and hope to win this game but imo it's not one you look at and expect victory and nothing else. The result could go either way given their attacking strength is one of our main defensive weaknesses.

This is exactly the sort of game where maximum possession and death by football would wear them down. If we kill of their counterattacking opportunities with slow building from the back, they will be dead on their feet on 70, when we sub well, pretty much like Albion did to us first day of last season.

I agree, this will be a tough game. Here is the set up from last season with average pitch positions

This is how quickly they hit us last season for the goal. Agbonlahor ended up winning the ball from Westwood's 50 yard long 'pass/ball' which Benteke smashed in from the edge of the area. In this instance there was a sizeable gap between their midfield & attack. There was no interest in Agbonlahor or Wiemann dropping off to receive the ball rather they were happy for midfield to hit Benteke and try to take advantage of a 3 on 4 situation.

This game will be another tough game and I'll take a 1-0 win right now. Benteke will be tough to handle as that's the sort of frontman we have trouble in dealing with but with Kolo there now maybe he won't be trouble for us.  :D

If we get an early goal though I can see us winning pretty comfortably.

Not even funny how boss Benteke is, hopefully Toure and Agger can keep him quiet all game because he can cause serious damage.

Its a big game sure, but tonights match against Chelsea will show 3 things:

- how to beat them (providing chelsea walk away with the 3 points).
- how fresh they;ll be for our game.
- first 11.

We will have a fresher team, so could play a higher tempo than them. Benteke / Westwood will be their stronger players, but I have no doubt that Toure can boss Benteke and Lucas + Gerrard can do a job on their central midfield.

Key to this game is to make our early dominance pay. We missed some sitters against Stoke but it was a nervy first game. Hope Mignolet really takes his keeping to another level.

This is what they looked like against Arsenal on Saturday

wow that really does look narrow. I suppose they use their pacy players to stretch the other team.

i think our fullbacks will have to be on top form in this game because agbonlahor is a threat.

Just as many others have said. They key in this game is to shut down both Agbonlahor and Benteke. Two top class players imo.

Hopefully we can do it better this year around than last year.

                   Mignolet
Johnson  Agger Toure Enrique
                    Lucas
          Gerrard Henderson
Aspas         Sturridge      Coutinho

Just as the Stoke game. Why change a winning concept?

I think were we struggled both home and away was stopping the service into Benteke. They will use the flanks  to creatre space and supply ammunition for teh forwards.  We need to be careful with Gabby Agbon dropping deep and running into teh last third, last season they drove a fucking  tractor through teh middle of us , thsi has to be remedied otherwise we will struggle. As always though it depends on which Villa side turn up.  Personally i think they  will be flying at us

I'm thinking Rodgers might go 3 at the back for this one given the threat Benteke caused the last time. Although we have Kolo there this time which might help match his physicality.

As I said on here yesterday, I hope Borini makes a start on the bench. Looked fit and scored a boss free kick and another decent goal against United in the U21's on Monday. If we're struggling to find the back of the net bringing Borini on mid second half I think we could create something.

Rodgers may choose to be a bit more conservative in this one, compared to Stoke.  Also he will not be so concerned about the physical element of this game (except of Benteke).  So.........
1. A good game to introduce Cissokho, but perhaps best as a second half sub.
2. Allen my get the nod ahead of Henderson.
3. Coutinho could be shifted to the wing with Sterling on the other side, or even Ibe.
That would leave us looking like -
                  Mignolet
Johnson  Toure  Agger  Enrique
                     Lucas
           Gerrard   Allen
 Sterling                       Coutinho
                  Sturridge
With Subs of Cissokho, Aspas Henderson and Ibe depending on how the game is going.

I think we'll do them with width. My tactics would be, keep possession for long periods, stretch the game, build up gradually and use the likes of Coutinho, Aspas, Sterling, Enrique, Johnson to cut in from wide and lay up strikers in the box. I think Arsenal failed through the middle as Villa just blocked.

Be a hard game, but this is one where we need to prove our ability to challenge . . .

. . . . . for CL places.

I'd like us to stick with the eleven that started against Stoke.  I'm not too concerned about Benteke this time around.  He was a thorn in our side last season but Toure put in arguably the best performance of any PL defender I saw against Benteke for Man City so I'm hopeful we can deal with him far better on Saturday with Kolo in our defence.  We need solid defensive performances from Johnson and Enrique to nullify the threat that Weimann and Agbonlahor carry from out wide for Villa, especially when they counter-attack.

After the way Allen played in the home game last season, and the way Hendo played in the away game, I would disagree strongly with you there.

I think we shall win this as Rodgers will assess how they beat Arsenal and adjust accordingly.

I'll be worried if Skrtel gets anywhere near the team sheet for this one.  His showing against benteke last season was the worst in his career and I don't think he ever quite recovered.

Something tells me we'll score a few goals here, their defense is nothing amazing and we are playing sublime football.  Having said that our defends is not perfect either and that front 3 have speed and power to spare.

4-2 the reds.
Sturridge, Aspas, aspas , Coutinho.

Lot of quality in that Villa side, Lambert is doing a real good job.

Delph, Weimann, Benteke and Agbonlahor could cause us serious problems on Saturday.

Their front 3 is very dangerous, last week they were brilliant against Arsenal. Well, did well to get the result anyway.

If we manage to score a couple, not mess up defensively, we should get this one after they play Chelsea as well in the same week.
