Am on holiday again in Spain at the moment and asking all the locals here whether Kenny is coming over, as I do the same every time I come here - even being in the same locale as him would make my day. Meeting him would make my life. There is nothing I want more than to meet this man who is the only other man apart from my granddad, the only person I will every call hero and shake his hand, although I don't think I could ever say anthing to him that would sum up how I feel about what he has done and means to me (at least without being escorted away by security!) Christ know, I have prepared years for any such scenario and I'm no closer to having something!!

I have stayed away from this forum since Kenny went, as it was like watching a bunch of spoilt brats opening their presents and saying "What's next?" without appreciating what they already have. Disgusting. And all this from "Liverpool fans" I've found it extremely unpalatable (being very polite) to say the least about some of the utter bile and shite being spewed forth in here about Kenny. I guess the old saying "You had to be there" is true.

Every game I played of football, I was number 7. Any new player that came along could go fuck himself. That 7 shirt was mine. in my later years of playing, manc twats when Cuntona came along wanted it. I used to take it home and wash it myself to stop them from getting it. (Even when I was sub) I was first in the changing room and made sure that it was mine. Obsessive maybe, but it was the closest I would ever get to being him and it sufficed.

No-one will ever sully his reputation in my eyes, although some have tried and some are still trying. Fuck yous all that do. You have no idea and no right.

The most important people at Liverpool Football Club are the people who want to be here

Fantastic OP.

Kenny still is and always will be The King.

I just wish he had not been brought back so we didn't have to see people who know nothing about football sack him ( i hate even typing that word in relation to Dalglish) and listen to no marks slag the great man off.  He wasn't just a great player and manager but he is a genuinely great man too away from the pitch too.

We might end up winning titles one day, but nothing would ever compensate for the fact that Kenny wasn't given a chance to find out whether he could do it.

It'll never be the same.

I fucking did. Gutted to think he won't be in the dugout next season.

What would Kenny do?  Whatever it might be, you know for certain it would be done with the utmost humility and respect.

Kenny Dalglish makes me want to be a better person, and I can't think of any higher accolade than that.

He's gone. Get over it. Get with the program, man. Sentiment has no place at the new LFC. The Boot Room... that's a place where you get puddings with sparklers in them, while you look at your new LeBron trainess from the shop, with the new LiverBird on them.  Fuck's sake old guy.... This is Anfield, the gaff where cups count for nothing and fourth is the new bread and butter.

I thought it was the end of the world when I saw that fucking big horrible yellow M go up at the ground. Little did I know, it was just the start...
Welcome to the all new media friendly, Anfield, (coming to Warrington or a place near you soon) with the smart money-ball, baseball-nomics, the all the new plassie-flag-waving, dancing and singing, but they don't know the words to the songs, Kopites... "Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the... FSG! FSG! FSG!"
Where do I get the FSG/Standard Chartered#1 big foam rubber hand?

As for this Dalglish dude, wasn't he some ancient racist guy that got fired on "Help I'm A Kopite.... Get me out of here!"

I never thought Dalglish should come back permenantly. He'd done what was needed, brought the fans back together and got the team going in the right direction. He should have left it at that, walked away legend intact.

I never thought he was the man to take us on. I knew he couldn't perform miracles. I knew blerts would turn on him, if they didn't get their childish demands met immeadiately. I didn't know the owners would be the worst blerts of the lot.

I was completey underwhelmed when they walked in after H&G. I thought we'd leapt out the fat into the fire. I said as much at the time and then kept schtum... loyalty, that's the thing about being a Liverpudlian. Not no more.

FSG have shown their hand. They've shown they don't give a fuck about anything but money. They've shown they know nothing about football. They've shown they don't give a toss about the fans.

I expect a load for that. I don't give a shite. That's the truth of it... we're a franchise, owned by a consortium of money grubbers, who don't understand the business they've bought into. They'll do what they want, when they want. They won't give a fuck what anybody thinks about it.

I look forward to the day football's greed eats itself. The beautiful game my arse.
2 more spot on posts. Out of the fat and into the fire is correct, but dont worry, we can all go and hide under our new plastic 4th place winners flags (if we are ever lucky enough to get one)!
We may sign Salah, but I'll show my arse in the middle of town if we sign one of VVD or Keita. Not gonna happen.

Mate, I'd paste that Citizen Kane applause GIF if it didn't seem so trite given the subject. Echoes the sentiments of many. For the lucky some of us, Dalglish represents that unique breed, a childhood hero whose legend grows ever greater into adulthood by his character and humility. Sad that it even needed to be said, but it won't be put better than you have.

...loyalty, humility and down right old fashioned decency. Kenny has it in spade loads and Liverpool Football Club is a far poorer place without his presence.
I only hope that, as his son Paul suggested, after Kenny gets back from holiday, he'll reconsider his rejection of a role upstairs. I understand why he told them to go fuck themselves so to speak and negotiated a payoff, but Liverpool FC NEEDS Kenny Dalglish more than vice versa. He's always said he would do whatever to serve the club's interests, and given he was typically magnanimous about the owners in his statement - which you know must be sincere - then it's surely for all parties' benefit that he works actively from the inside rather than passively watching from outside. He's suffered enough of that over the years, until Rafa brought him back. Even more so now we have the likes of Ian Fucking Ayre channeling Cecil "Football Manager" Purslow.

There is an awful lot of vitriol on this site at the minute.  Its been that way for a few years to be honest.

From those who thought, in 2007, that Gillett and Hicks were like Noah and his missus... about to sail us away on an ark to salvation  (and others who thought we'd be shipwrecked).

Then there was the pro/anti-Rafa divide.

Some thought he was Moses, and would lead us to the Promised Land.  Many more thought we would be slaves for ever.

Now its FSG.  Some who trust. Others who need to have trust earned. And a sizeable number who won't ever get on board.

I have a major problem, and its this.  I can't wait for some of the replies I'm gonna get....and in a way its kind of going to confirm what I have been thinking for a while (but I'll wait to see).

To me, following the biblical thing, Kenny Dalglish is, and always has been, Jesus Christ.  Yes, maybe there was a Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. For those read Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish in whichever order you choose. (I'd have Shanks as the Big Boy, Paisley as the Spirit, but Kenny as the Jesus figure).

Thats how I have regarded Kenny Dalglish all my life.  He was the greatest footballer I ever saw.  I first saw him play at Ibrox, when I was 10. I was in the Celtic end, a few months after the disaster, and Celtic won 3-0.  A young fella came on as sub.  Dalglish.

When I went to my first match to see Liverpool play, in Belfast, 1977;  there was a new lad not playing, but just arrived at the club... Dalglish.

When I went to my second Liverpool match, that fella scored the only goal, and whats more...  I got to kiss him after he scored.  Dalglish.

For 25 years (and a bit more), Kenny Dalglish never, ever, put a foot wrong in his life.

He was a model trainee, at Celtic.   I know this, because the man who does my car tyres now was a Celtic trainee at that time.  Dalglish used to give my mate Kevin McCool a lift to training. And he was a role model when he was 20.

He was the greatest player we ever had, and Scotland ever had.

He married, raised kids. He never played away, did he?  His standards of behaviour, the kids he raised... he is a role model that our society would do well to try and copy.  A fucking perfect gentleman.

He managed us in the true manner of all he'd been taught....as the LAST member of The Liverpool Way Club.  Success a plenty; but achieved in the right way.

Then he did what no man should expect to ever do.  He leads out HIS team...LIVERPOOL... to a European Cup Final in 1985.   Then, if thats not enough, he does the same and worse (much, much worse) as a young manager, 4 years later in Sheffield.

I'm not going to go on and spell out what Kenny Dalglish then did. How he fought tragedy at home due to his wife's illness.  Or the Charity work he did. How he coped with severe PTSD.  And eventually how he answered the call to try to unite a fractured Club in the aftermath of their worst disaster since 1989.  He answered the call, but probably knew he was drinking out a poisoned chalice.  How he would not get the chance to reacquaint himself with the running of a team after 15+ years away.  No. He was a lame duck.

He was called by the paymasters, because he was the only one they knew they could ask. Imagine had they asked Martinez then?  After Hodgson?  There'd been riots in April.

So, these Americans called on Dalglish, my living God, to save them from disaster.  And Kenny Dalglish, being what and who he is, said OK.

The rest you all know.

The purpose of this conversation (and even if its only between me, and me) is this.

No man who ever wants to be connected. In any way whatever. With Liverpool Football Club. Has, or will ever, earn the credentials, the savoir faire, or the affection of me, and many many thousands like me. Without acknowledging the debt we owe to a small, big man, from Southwest Glasgow.  Any c*nt who ever hurts or tries to damage THIS MESSIAH of ours, will need to go through us first.

So OWNERS.  SPAWNY BLERT 'FANS' from wherever you come.   Do not EVER try to disturb the legend of Kenny Dalglish.  Because I and Liverpool supporters like me will not let you do that.  Theres only three in our trinity.

SHANKLY.  PAISLEY.   DALGLISH.

You attack one of them, you attack us all.

Stupidly, I am in tears after reading that brilliant post.

I am too old for hero worship, having idols etc, these are things that kids feel about the latest boy band or actor with a neat 6 pack aren't they?

Nevertheless, I unashamedly say I love Kenny Dalglish, and feel a 100% loyalty to him, and his family, even though I have never had the privilege to meet any of them.

I feel total disgust that the club he loves has had the bloody gall to sack him as they did, and make those smarmy two faced statements about him being the heart and soul of the club afterwards.

The day they sacked Kenny was the day they ripped what was left of the heart and soul out of the club that I have held dear for over 50yrs, and I will never forgive them for it.

Thanks for a brilliant post cowtownred

Great op

Like I said of Dalglish in the goodbye thread - there are no words that can describe what he has done for us or the debt we owe him

I did feel that he was "used" to a degree by the owners/club to stand in for the tender period because like you said he was the only one who definitely would in that mess.

No matter what the wider world of fans/football say with thoughtlessness Kenny will always be King.

Rafa is just Rafa.  I genuinely believe he should have got up there with the others but history took a different tack and sadly he may never get the opportunity.  Kenny along with Shanks and Paisley is still a level above Rafa in my mind.

No one is bigger then the club. Even Kenny would tell you that.

Love the guy to bits though, he was and still is my hero and anyone who disrespects or bad mouths him is a twat.

Do you know, I understand the sentiment behind the 'no man is bigger than the club' thing, but I am beginning to wonder if it is true.

For me, Kenny Dalglish epitomises everything that made our club special, made it different from the rest of the pack.  While clubs have to look forward and plan for the future, we always managed to do that with a link to the past too.  The famous bootroom wasn't just a vague notion, it was something built up from the very beginning of the club that forged The Liverpool Way, the philosophy of the club, how people behaved - its whole ethos.

Dalglish was part of that, he was brought up surrounded by the greats, the people who made the club the most successful club in the country - a title we still hold despite Man U's two decades of dominance.

His links to the heroes of the past, his deep love of the club and the city, his dedication and willingness to put himself on the line for LFC make him special in ways I don't have the eloquence to explain.

I do feel though, that his sacking has diminished the club to a huge extent.  To me it no longer seems to be the club I have followed for years any more.  I find myself totally disinterested in what its players are doing, what the owners plans are, who they get as manager because i dont give a shit any more.

Kenny's sacking was a step too far, and the disgust I feel at some of the gobshites saying how good a replacement Martinez could be is best left unsaid.

I am afraid that the 'no one is bigger than the club' just doesn't make sense to me any more because sacking Kenny feels like the soul has been ripped from the club and it just doesn't feel the same any more.

I agree, it isn't true in Kenny's case. For me, the "no man is bigger...." sentiment was always intended and continues to apply to players anyway, more than managers.

The massive glaring exception being if said manager was also a man who helped MAKE this club what it is. And with all respect to Joe, Ged and Rafa, there's only ever been a Holy Trinity there as Cowtown said. Shanks, Paisley and Dalglish.

I'd go along with this. I'm still in shock that the owners booted King Kenny out with seemingly so little regard for how the supporters felt about him. I think one of the things that FSG haven't seemed to have appreciated here is that a football club is more than just a business.

However, I've also no doubt that had the same decision been taken 6 months down the line, had we performed equally poorly, then there may have been fewer dissenting voices.

I always worried that Kenny's legend status might be tarnished if he came back and managed the club and voiced those concerns back then, but paradoxically, the way he has been treated by the owners and his stoicity (sic?) in the face of it has if anything strengthened his legend status.

Some wanted a new manager (although most wanted him to stay in the job) and whether he is our manager or not he will still be idolised.

I was in my 'lad' room last night after watching the Soccer Aid match, looking at the signed ball I was given by my grandad from the '84 season that he'd won in the first goalscorer competition. An old Mitre ball, fat leather panels with thick stitching and scuff marks from where they had obviously kicked the ball around the dressing room. I sat and stared at Kenny's autograph, as well as those other fine men who comprised that particular team, and I just felt so sad. Roy Evans had also signed it, as had Joe Fagan, and I couldn't help but think that we will never see the likes of these people again, not just at LFC but within football in general.

It's funny when I get United-supporting mates of mine poking fun at me and calling LFCTV 'The History Channel' - I should be offended, but I'm not. We have history, and we should be fucking well proud of it. The club I grew up with and loved finally died in my eyes when these so-called 'custodians' did what they did to Kenny. He is a fundamental part of our history, our life blood, and to discard him in such a manner, when the club is going through a transition and actually winning trophies again, is a disgrace. Short-termism is the new ethos, the dollar is the new King. We may as well be just like every other club now because The Liverpool Way is gone.

Thank you Kenny, just for being you.

Kenneth Dalglish ‏@kennethdalglish

Overwhelmed by support of the fans. Always been special but even more so now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. YNWA and I never have.

Jesus, I almost can't type this because I can't see the keys through the tears. How much more of himself does Kenny have to give to LFC?
He never left anything behind him on the pitch. He never left anything behind as  the gaffer. He almost lost his sanity in the aftermath of Hillsborough taking on the grief of families and fans. I remember the day he signed, I remember his first goal, I remember his first stint as manager. I've watched the years and cares of life take it's toll on his face (pretty much in tandem with my own) and seen them wiped out in the simple joy of the redmen scoring. Look at his simple celebration... unchanged through all that time. I remember him walking out of the tunnel for the second time as manager and fearing my heart would burst from sheer joy.
But I hope to Christ that I forget as quickly as possible the heartbreak and grief and blind rage from the last 30 hours  that I haven't been able to come to any kind of terms with yet, and do as Kenny has asked and support the club and his successor as he will undoubtedly do himself.
As always in everything he has ever done for Liverpool he is a shining example to anyone who has anything to do with Liverpool.
You are only too right Kenny
 YOU will NEVER walk alone.
I posted this on the 17th in response to Kennys thanks. looked at again after reading your OP and don't think I did so well.
Thanks CTR, thanks for articulating my feelings so well. Fuck me I'm crying again. I'm in my 40's for fuck's sake. I feel bereft. I feel lost. I know from experience that time heals all wounds but being brutally honest - Fuck that.

And thanks to you too Montysmum for also saying what I feel even though it brings with it the truly appalling realisation that The King will be forced into exile from HIS beloved club in the immediate future because of what has happened and how it was conducted.

What has LFC become now? FSG say Kenny was the heart and soul of the club and yet in the name of progress they coldly, cynically ( because I suspect the King's name was on the Death List as soon as Comolli was removed) surgically tear the club's heart out. They have removed the possibility of him "moving upstairs" and this too, I suspect given what seems to be happening on a day to day basis, was carefully orchestrated by the club's new owners. Owners with their own vision of how their acquisition will be shaped which doesn't include our maudlin, mawkish sentimentality about a certain man who we felt was the embodiment of the club.

I think Fat Scouser could be right - we are in grave danger of losing ourselves and if WE the fans, the supporters don't get our shit together then OUR team will end up just another premiership team.
What do we do? I don't know. I don't have a Silver Bullet to solve the conflicted feelings I have now.
I will wait and see what happens and try to convince my battered heart to do what I believe Kenny would want.:

When you walk through a storm,
Hold your head up high,
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm,

Is the golden sky,
And the sweet silver song of the lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,

Though your dreams be tossed and blown,
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,

And any of you reading this that thinks that's too contrived can kiss my Hairy Hole!!
That is what the Redmen are all about.

I never thought Dalglish should come back permenantly. He'd done what was needed, brought the fans back together and got the team going in the right direction. He should have left it at that, walked away legend intact.

Thing is Leo, you are wrong, he was exactly the man to come back to the club, to unify us after the biggest rift in our history and expose the arseholes for what they are. The Ian Ayres of this world, the FSG's with their two faced bullshit and the modern day Liverpool fan, particularly the type that frequent internet chat rooms, expounding the relative merits of Martinez, Van Gall, Rodgers or playing fantasy football with Klopp and Guardiola.

Even in his dignified exit he has done more to illustrate everything that is wrong woth football and this club in particular than many of those arseholes will ever get their head around, FSG have shown their hand yet the same pricks don't even see it. The amount of times I've seen over the past few weeks that we should give them time, that they have done nothing wrong, well, at best, its a fucken joke.

Kenny united us, we divided us. The next fella, he won't have a chance, if these pricks are only willing to give Kenny Dalglish one very difficult season, then what chance has anybody else fucken got?

CTR, boss post mate, deserves a wider audience, you more likely got it if you'd entitled it 'who should replace Kenny Dalglish?' Agree with every sentiment, a man who spent his days fighting for us, shit on by owners who care nothing for us, a man with Liverpool and Liverpool fans in his heart, while we stood idly by chatting shit about who the next manager will be. Have we been here before?

Thanks for everything Kenny

When I saw Kenny on the touchline last night at Soccer Aid (esp when ROW scored) I couldn't help but wonder how much we'll miss him. Anyone who has thrown insults towards him are not (and will never be) Liverpool supporters.

We can only hope that the next man who comes in will immerse himself in our history like Rafa did, and try and repair the bond between the club and the fans.

Wonderful opening thread CTR and some great contributions from MM and John Mac too - "Kenny united us, we divided us". Brilliant line.

I'm sure he would be really embarrassed at the outpouring of affection for him on here, he'd say, "I just done my best for the club and it's supporters!" But that is what makes him the man that he is.

He is still the finest player I ever saw in our kit, and up there, for me, in the top 10 of world players still to this day; but more than that, he has constantly demonstrated who he is as a man. His strength, integrity, dignity and class and love for the club, the city and people shine out bright as ever.

I very rarely use the term "Legend" but it is so appropriate to Kenny Dalglish.

Along with the OP, there are some great posts in this thread that say exactly how I feel, but written so much better than I ever could. You can feel the respect in each post and it just shows how much one man meant to so many of us.

I was recently given a load of old family photos as my Mum was having a clear out last year. There's one with me an my brother sitting on my bed, behind us was a wall plastered with posters and photos of one man. King Kenny.

He is now, as he was all those years ago, my all time hero. Nobody will ever come close.

There is a Kenny tribute video from Mostar in the audio thread, as childish as it may sound I just can't bring myself to watch it.

Thanks for everything Kenny.

I've never had a shirt with a name other than Dalglish on it. He was my idol as a kid and I felt 12 years old again when he too over last January. I think he should have been given the other 2 years that FSG contracted him for and I'm sure we'd have improved our league position year on year.

I hope FSG invite him back in an ambassadorial role soon but I can't see it unless the new manager actually asks for him.

No one is bigger then the club. Even Kenny would tell you that.

Love the guy to bits though, he was and still is my hero and anyone who disrespects or bad mouths him is a twat.

kenny and the club go together hand in hand entwined together in a great legacy.  the only exception to the rule as they stand for everything lfc is about

He would say that because that's the kind of bloke he is. But Kenny is massive and embodies what was LFC.

LFC now is just a parody of it's old self, and not even a good parody - it's lost itself.

What an excellent OP, and my hat goes off to the author for his words which have clearly come from the heart.

What does stick in my throat is the attitude of some that unless you think FSG are cold, ruthless, stone hearted, untustworthy outsiders from across the pond, then you arent really a proper fan. If you dont want to rise against them, then you and you're opinion doesnt really count as a fan.

Let me tell you, I have supported this club since 1978, I have been to countless games, home, away and in Europe. I have shed tears of despair, tears of happiness, I have fought with other people, I have had stand up arguments with total strangers, I have cancelled parties, dates with women just to see them play, I have been shouted at by Policemen and stewards at Anfield for getting too emotional. What for...... to follow the club that I adore with all my heart.

One day in school, a teacher walked into class and announced with glee, "Kenny Dalglish has resigned", I was 12 years old. I remember vividly biting my lip and swallowing hard, trying not to cry in front of girls and my friends. Then walking into my house and sobbing. "Come on now, would Kenny want to see you crying like this?" my mum asked me as she wiped away my tears.

Fast forward to May, when I had to endure the whoops of delight from my Mancunian colleagues when we would sit and watch the match during quite spells in work, or when we would read the Monday morning papers. "King Kenny is past it!" they would say, half-jokingly, waiting for the explosive reaction from me which always come, "Get to fook!" I'd shout at them.
But in my heart of hearts I was concerned for the great man, his excuses were becoming predictable, he didnt look healthy, he was constantly sniping at the media, could the great man take much more of the underperforming and bad luck that apparently haunted us?

I used to go in my local pubs in Huyton and listen to friends and other locals discuss the situation at the club, "Kenny needs to step down", "Give him time", "Give him another season", "He's gonna resign after Wembley". Peoples - Scousers - supporters, their opinions were divided.
Myself, I had it into my head that he should be given one more season, let the great man try again, continue rebuilding.

When he was sacked, I was saddened but not surprised. I felt an overwhelming feeling of sorrow, sorry that it had come to this. But I can hand on heart say, it didnt make me turn on FSG, it didnt make me take to Twitter to abuse John Henry and his missus. Thats not my way, and not the way of 99% of our fans, we are better than that.

What I am trying to say is, and I mean no offence, nobody - not one person, has got the right to question my love for Liverpool Football Club, Kenny Dalglish or anyone who I hold close to my heart - That includes Rafa and my little mate Luis Garcia.
Giving a bit of trust to FSG is not insulting the legacy of a man who I adore, and will always adore for the rest of my days, and anyone who says otherwise has got a bastard cheek!

Although I found the biblical references cringeworthy, I completely understand the sentiment behind the OP and appreciate it.  He is a legend and always will be. Nothing is ever going to change that.

Got warned for having a go at posters discussing managerial candidates minutes after the announcement of Kenny's unceremonious exit came in. Needless to say, it made my blood fucking boil.

Kenny the man and Kenny the footballer will never be bettered at LFC.
