question....
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:03:55 am »
Right, my laptop had its hard drive rebooted yesterday, seems to be working a lot better since. Except for one thing.

When I'm in explorer as I am now, surfing is perfectly fine, and quick. If i go to download a torrent (I use vuze), not only will it now download, but explorer wont work either. Just will not load the pages requested.

When i shut down Vuze, explorer starts working again properly.

The question is; is this a problem with the computer (and if so, what?) or is it more to do with my connection? (the fact that it was working fine at the weekend would suggest its the former)

Any help, please!  :wave

Use firefox, opera or chrome as a web browser. When IE crashes it can take down the windows explorer too making a right mess.

When using a torrent it is possible for the torrent to swamp the bandwidth of your machine and fail to load any web pages. Do you throttle the bandwidth at all?

What d'you mean by that? Rebooting is simply restarting the puter.

Defragged? Reinstalled Windows?

Maximum number of connections reached? Did you do a fix or updated Windows?

AFAIK, torrents can generate several hundreds or thousands of connections at a time

Check the Event Logs for something similar to this:

Someone should do the right thing - go back in time to 1992 and destroy the codes to Championship Manager before it is ever released

It could be your route / adsl modem. If it is configured to have a maximum number of connections - if Vuze uses them all, you won't get internet connectivity for as long as vuze is hogging it.

What modem / router are you using?

That's what I thought. It does help to be as specific as you can when seeking help.

Operating System, Error Messages, any recent changes/updates to hardware/software/drivers or any other relevant info.

Hardware make and model numbers etc.
