It's obvious why everyone gets frustrated by him when he goes on these bad runs of form, and that is because we all know how good he can be. Whereas with someone like Flanagan, we know he is limited so as long as he puts in a good shift we praise him. Johnson, however, didn't put in a shift today. He was hopeless, he didn't offer much going forward and jogged back when he was caught up the pitch. Compare that with someone like Nathaniel Clyne who busts a gut every time, and it's frustrating, because we know that if Johnson applied himself with the right attitude to every game then we would be doing better, as he has more talent than most fullbacks. He is such an important part of how we play when we do well and he does well, but when he's bad he is truly bad. Doesn't do middle ground our Glen.
I wouldn't drop him, simply due to the lack of options, unless McLaughlin does enough to warrant a place against Norwich. What Rodgers should be doing him is motivating him, getting more out of him than today. The guy is on £100k a week in a position where few players get 1/4 that wage.
I'd also be expecting better of him simply because it's realistically his last World Cup chance on the horizon, and that should definitely act as motivation for any player. Knowing Hodgson though, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he's told Glen he's gawanteed to go wegardless of his performances for the west of the season.
