Sick Americans (you may find this topic offensive)
« on: June 19, 2006, 05:30:07 pm »
I was in two minds whether to post this here, because
A) I'm not a 'Pool fan (Palace)
B) I don't want to re-open wounds

But feel free to close/delete the topic. I've decided to test the water because it has turned my stomach.

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2006/06/world_cup_death_2.html#comments

This station is running a World Cup Deathwatch  :wanker and has posted links to both yours and Bradford's tragedies. How a radio station can get away with such things is beyond comprehension - until you realise they are American. They have offeneded me, but I apologise if informing you is insensitive or if I have offended anyone.

All the best.

It most definately is worth it.

Some of the shite on there is terrible. Pure lazy stereotyping of football fans and a disgusting misrepresentation of those whoe died or suffered because of the Hillsborough disaster.

Have already sent a polite message to the station manager. I would suggest others do the same in the hope they remove the inappropriate content.

I wonder if they'd be happy if there was a 'High School Shootout watch' site?

Interesting format of shows... a few that caught my eye..

The Speakeasy with Dorian (e-mail)

Guests from the world of the arts, sciences, the media, and other areas. Every couple of weeks the Speakeasy presents "Duck Hunting With Dick", our political hour with co-host Ken Smith

Dave Emory (e-mail)

Anti-fascist researcher Dave Emory (spelled E-M-O-R-Y) goes into all the hidden truths and details about evil men and their trade practices.

Seven Second Delay with Ken (e-mail) and Andy Breckman (e-mail)

Ken and Andy further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards as the program enters its death throes. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw

Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine (e-mail)

Music to slaughter livestock to; 5,000 factory farmers can't all be wrong

http://www.wfmu.org/schedule?period=18

WFMU is an independent freeform radio station broadcasting at 91.1 fm in the New York City area, at 90.1 fm in the Hudson Valley

Probably not your local conservative radio station...

Free speech and all that...

But the  more hits from football fans..the more exposure they get.

Well, I live in the US although I am a British Liverpool supporter. Basically a thick site run by a bunch of twats. Even worse given that its supposed to be a "radio station". Looks like its a public run one or something like that certainly not a commercial station from what I saw.

I filed a complaint with the FCC over here which is as about as much as you can do.

Even though they did point out that it was none hooligan related "For historic football tragedies which are not hooligan-related"  i think its wrong of them to mention it like they have, the whole piece should be scrapped to be honest.  Ill be sending my email straight away!

To be fair mate crap goes on where ever you live. You won't catch me justifying a site full of bollocks like that.

No decent minded American, Englishman or man/woman from mars would justify any of that.

This is just disgusting. Every time I think of a reason to forgive Americans for what they did, I see something like this which reminds me what tossers they are. Shit leader and a shit country. I'm just sorry for whoever's brainwashed by that crap.

Yeah, after calming down a bit I guess there are some open-minded Americans who think there's no room for this shit.

The link has been changed now. Not quite what was asked for, but at least the fella took the time to read and act on the requests sent to him.

Quote
Gareth - I have changed that link at your request. It is not my
intention to make fun of anybody who has died, and contrary to many of
the comments left on my post, I frequently criticize the US government
and US culture for the violence found in all walks of American
life. I am merely chronicling all world cup related fatalities,
because I find it unfortunate but fascinating that so many people die
world wide for a game. I dont know of any comparable situation to
this, and there has been no discussion of the world wide loss of life
related to the world cup.

I do appreciate you taking the time to write me a reasonable request,
and I do deeply apologize if you felt I was mocking those who have
suffered as a result of the tragedy in Hillsborough.

That change has only gone up in the last hour or so, in response to complaints. Originally no distinction was made.

People should feel free to continue writing if they are unhappy. I know I am not overly pleased seeing such an emotive subject side by side on a site thats there to generate laughs.
