I think we have multiple possibilities on the flanks now. Actually, it has become quite apparent for a while, hasn't it?
On the left we might see
LBs - Enrique, Aurelio, Insua, Robinson, Agger (worst case)
LMs - Downing, Aurelio, Suarez
On the right though the possibilities are even better.
RBs - Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan, Carra (worst case)
RMs - Kuyt, Downing, Henderson, Gerrard, Suarez
Not to forget if Meireles stays, he can do a solid job at wide midfield positions too. Run a Cartesian product between all the above choices and we have so many great possibilities to look forward to. Oh, the perks of being good at mathematics at college.
Also, the advantage we might hold this season over last is that when our experienced full backs are out for a big game, we can trust the young ones to do a solid job as was evident from last season. That against sticking the best of our CBs at full back positions, which left the center exposed.
