brilliant LFC strategy of filling in the holes one by one . Once again our waiting game has come up trumps... I am sure this is exactly what is going on even in the CB Situation.

What takes me over the noon is this broke out on our site first. Fuck rest of the media!

What a difference a year makes!  Thank god we don't have to sell to buy any more - especially seeing as we can't actually sell the shit Purslow brought in!

Two strikers, a leftie midfielder, a rightie with CM ability, a ball playing CM, a left back...6 additions in two windows. Good work LFC

I think we have multiple possibilities on the flanks now. Actually, it has become quite apparent for a while, hasn't it?

On the left we might see
LBs - Enrique, Aurelio, Insua, Robinson, Agger (worst case)
LMs - Downing, Aurelio, Suarez

On the right though the possibilities are even better.
RBs - Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan, Carra (worst case)
RMs - Kuyt, Downing, Henderson, Gerrard, Suarez

Not to forget if Meireles stays, he can do a solid job at wide midfield positions too. Run a Cartesian product between all the above choices and we have so many great possibilities to look forward to. Oh, the perks of being good at mathematics at college. ;)

Also, the advantage we might hold this season over last is that when our experienced full backs are out for a big game, we can trust the young ones to do a solid job as was evident from last season. That against sticking the best of our CBs at full back positions, which left the center exposed.

Hooray, excellent deal. Squad's shaping up nicely compared to 12 months ago. Fair play to the club for holding out and getting what will no doubt turn out to be an absolute bargain.

With the CB position we have Carra/Skrtel/Agger/Soto definitely can do the job

If they all stay fit then they could cover the task in hand. But that's a big if with Agger involved. Not only that, but with Carra being 33 now and question marks remaining over both Skrtel (at times) and Krygiakos, I don't agree that they can "definitely" do a job. There is a big question mark over that area of our squad in my view and I think the very fact that we persued Jones so heavily indicates that the club share that view as well. At least I hope so.

Add a CB to our squad and we're very close to challenging in my view.

Not saying we shouldn't be looking to put someone new into the mix, just saying between LB and CB , before Enrique LB was our main concern.

I think Andy is in for a big season myself. I know all the hype is about Suarez (and rightly so) but Carroll is going to score a lot of goals for us this season if he stays fit.

from the NUFC forum:

again we've strengthened the squad of L.F.C.!!!!!!! and not for the £7-8m too, more like £4m

Its now become a long and sad list.....

Albert Stubbins
Terry Mac
Alan Kennedy
Peter Beardsley
Andy Carroll
and now Jose Enrique

And look whats come the other way.....

Barry Venison
Ian Rush (via Leeds)
John Barnes

But then Liverpool are just doing what they always do - an average sized club with gigantic ambition

Ecstatic with this. Enrique is a very good player, he will bring us the stability we have been lacking in that position.

Finally we have ourselves both a natural left back and a natural left winger!

Credit were credit is due to Henry et al.

I would partially agree with that. I still think a backup striker might be needed. CB is definitely a concern , but I wouldn't be unhappy if we didn't add anyone new. I would prefer we did, but I think for their first real transfer window, FSC has have done fantastic. You can't plug all the holes in one go.

1. Jose Enrique Sanchez Diaz was born in Valencia on January 23, 1986. He shares a birthday with Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.

2. He's nicknamed 'El Toro' (The Bull) due to his speed and physical prowess. He explains: "The nickname was given to me by a teammate in the Spanish U21s, Juanfran. It is a nickname that does not bother me; on the contrary, it is a compliment."

3. Enrique was selected as Newcastle's official Player of the Season for 2009-10 having been voted for by fans on the club's official website.

4. He was also named in the Championship's PFA Team of the Season for 2009-10 alongside Andy Carroll after the pair excelled in the Toon Army's promotion push.

5. As a youngster, Enrique had to choose between pursuing a livelihood in either sprinting or football having been a member of Valencia's Benimaclet running club. Suffice to say, speed is one of his main attributes as a full-back.

6. The defender started his career at Levante, impressing for their B team and earning a move to Valencia. However, he was instantly loaned out to Celta Vigo for a season in order to gain senior experience.

7. He joined Villarreal in the summer of 2006 and actually made his first visit to St James' Park that year, figuring for the Yellow Submarines in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United.

8. Enrique would make a permanent move to Tyneside 12 months later when he signed a five-year deal, with then Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce claiming Newcastle had beaten off competition from Liverpool and Manchester City to land their man.

9. Enrique made 36 appearances for the Toon in 2010-11, all of which came in the Premier League.

10. Enrique has netted just one goal since arriving in England. It came during Newcastle's 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in March 2010.
