hmmm should i risk answering this, hell why not when it mattered Tony was a great help in here, how about you?

now Emre Can hey?
What purpose does it serve to chat shit about Can at such a young age? He is name dropper these days, who is clueless about what happens behind the scenes. Rather say nothing than shit stir IMO
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

He's boss, he'll be one of our best signings this summer. Just give it a while.

I think so too. He'll be the one most likely to retire Gerrard in my view but early days like you said.

Was it Dembele he was shrugging off when he powered through the middle to put Raheem in?

Do you think?

I enjoyed his powerful run through the middle but he didn't look fit to me. Whenever he went to close someone down the opposing player would slightly shift direction and Emre seemed to take forever to change with him. I don't think he's slow but some of his reactions certainly seemed that way today.

He was carrying an injury at the start of the season.  Hes getting his match sharpness back now.

I think he's looked good in his past two cameos to be honest. Both initial impressions. Was surprised people were saying he looked sluggish against City, not necessarily because he wasn't, but I never noticed it.

Think the minutes will help him get up to speed though. Can see him starting vs Ludo.

He was like a panzer tank bursting through midfield when he passed the ball to sterling for his mazy run chance.

Thought he was great when he came on today. By far his best performance in a red shirt. Looks like he's starting to settle. I'd have no problem with him playing Gerrard's role if Stevie needs a rest or gets injured.

Not quite as good as he was pre season as doesn't look fit after the knock he got. But you can see at only 20 he's a tank with ability

Thought he looked good today. Could've been a bit sharper but when he's fully match fit and settled in I reckon he'll do very well here. He adds power to our midfield, which none of our other midfielders really do.

It was interesting to see him drop deeper than Gerrard towards the end and take up that 'third centre back' position. Is that where Brendan sees him long term?

Thought he looked ok today, but has a long way to go and, thankfully, lots of time on his side. Seems to be coming bad to fitness, also. Like the look of him though. Moves with real power, like a train.

Yep that was a nice cameo. Big unit and rapid when he opens up. Not sure he is as slow on the turn as some are making out.

I really hope he becomes a club legend, just to stick it up Evans.

Looked brilliant when he came on today and almost got an assist straight away for Sterlings missed chance!
It seemed like he wanted to get on the ball a bit more and found the space, just needs to keep doing what he's doing and he'll be bossing games for us in no time!

Always assumed him to be a box-to-box centre midfielder but can he play in defensive midfield as well? It's probably the only position that doesn't fill with me with total confidence, mainly due to the lack of mobility from Gerrard and Lucas (plus Gerrard's passing was awful today in the first half, but the penalty helped!).

I like him. Ive seen him a few times and has got great technical ability, great pace once he gets going.
He can do the box to box stuff. Strong young boy.

Looks like he can get turned easily in defensive duties and struggles to keep with players over the first few yards.

I think he offers a good all round game.

He's not really built for agility, he's built for power. His run to shake off Dembele is a good example. Once he got into his stride, he was clearly getting separation from Dembele. He's not quick in his first steps, but over distance he can pick up some speed. And you can't knock him off the ball if he is moving, either.
Better looking than Samie.

Don't expect him to feature too regularly before Christmas and we shouldn't need him to feature much, either. Let him settle in nicely and then as the season wears on and players become tired, I expect him to grow into the role.

He isn't quick but then neither is Yaya. Looks very similar when he has the ball at his feet. You just can't get it off him. Still got to work a lot to develop his talent though.

Why not?

As long as the manager knows then it doesn't really matter where the player thinks he is best - it isn't always the same.

I think a lot of the posts have it right to varying degrees - a couple of time in the game on Sunday he charged forward at a man with the ball only for the player to make a quick jink and get past him.  Credit to Emre for then hustling after the player.

However, he also had several plays where he battled for the ball and won it, and laid off nice passes to retain possession or keep a move going.

And the one opportunity where he not only won the ball, but discarded Dembele (a player that people were raving about when Spurs got him) then burst up the field and astutely got it to the right player - Sterling - was the kind of play that should show his potential.  Energy, drive, combativeness and a good eye for a pass.

I disagree that he won't feature - I think Rodgers targeted him for purchase because he knows his game and knows that he can improve it.  I think he will be played as much as possible (not starting apart from the League Cup) to get him up to speed in the PL.

(Also good to see the overreaction post Manchester City has died down).
