Aside from Skrtel selling him short leading to the yellow, and him giving the ball away on that one pass early on that led directly to a chance, did he do much to deserve this criticism of "sloppy/misplaced passes"?

He played a few sloppy passes, but the team have been playing a lot of sloppy passes recently. Johnson, Skrtel, Flanno, Sterling, Henderson and even Gerrard have all given the ball away sloppily over the course of the season. Feel like the team is just not as good on the ball as we maybe should be.

Must have done.  He started against Notts County in the League Cup as well so it must be a year since he started at home in the league.  Hopefully last night's performance will have helped him to regain some confidence and he'll get a run of regular football now.

He started against Sunderland on January 2nd, 2013.  Not going to forget the team my only match at Anfield.
And if you can do it all with a proud boner, then why the hell not?

Not to rain on his parade already, but I do worry about him being the main defensive midfielder against Nolan/Diame and Co. on Saturday, he's not fared well against big bruisers before.

He didn't start, he came off the bench and played very well, he had a goal disallowed and I think hit the post as well.

He did well against Toure (a game he said was the hardest he has played in) and Fellani last season.

He did very well. I think this big unit midfielder over-running is a myth. It's the nimble quick passers who have been our undoing.

I think he did well but needs to pass forward and mistakes would've punished us. But back from injury, a good sign

My only worry is, as a player brought in to be a possession-keeping passing machine, he's been caught on the ball and been bullied off it too easily. I remember him having that problem before the injury when teams noticed if you started pressing him more, he ran out of ideas. Be interesting to see how he matures in time.

I would like to see him and Lucas play as a partnership, I think it would have a good balance, it would prob mean dropping Gerrard but that is another debate.
Have we seen them line up together before? If so im guessing it was with a recovering Lucas and Allen with a bung shoulder.
If he can start showing his Swansea and early Liverpool form we might not need another CM in January

This may seem trivial but i think he should change his shirt number. It would represent a fresh start (of sorts). Having played for my university i found that small things (like a number change) can make a difference in terms of form and confidence, especially considering he has talent. Isn't 13 available?
