Average performance, played much better after we went 1-0 up. Managed the game well in the last 20 or so too.

Kevin Friend couldn't have asked for an easier game to manage and yet he was fucking woeful. Kept letting them foul us over and over - some of which were quite dangerous - with no repercussions and yet he booked Sterling for fuck all and then refused Allen the most obvious penalty you could ask for.

Result is what mattered tonight, but we could do with playing much better in our remaining league matches.

I think Sturridge is carrying an injury or severely lacking match sharpness. He looks miles off the pace, doesn't seem to be getting any better. I know he had five long months out but surely the signs would be better by now?

It was never going to be easy, exactly the type of performance you'd expect from a Championship team mid-week playing in their most important game of the season. We did well, Mignolet made some very good saves but on another day we could have killed it off if Sturridge looked anything like the player from last season.

Lovren and Toure were fantastic at the back, well done.

On Saturday he was saying he's better than Ozil. He actually said that Sterling's finishing is not he's strong suit. I think most would agree with that.
