Stafford may not be any better than any of those players, but the Lions aren't going to get any of them. So he's their best option.

Is he worth that much in comparison to the rest? Probably not. Is he worth that much to the Lions? Maybe.

In a hard salary cap system you're fucking over the rest of your side if someone like Stafford is taking 15% of the total cap.  That's how the Ravens have found themselves in no man's land these past few years after they gave Elite money to a non-elite QB.

To what end, though?  They'll never be anything more than first round wild card losers with him at best.  9-7 is their ceiling and getting owned by the Packers while paying Stafford around $4m a year more than the Packers are paying Rodgers.

But they did go 0-16 before him, so you know, better the devil you know I guess.

Texans v Cowboys pre season game on Thursday has been moved to Arlington, & Texans are due to play Jags at home in week 1 of the regular season 10th September, that could still be moved as well.

You're saying save the money and finish 4-12 every year instead?

Nope.

Stafford's good. There are definitely better but he's pretty consistent (unlike Ryan, Cam and Jameis). Your argument about Flacco is right to some extent but if you offered 28 teams the Ravens' last five years they'd jump at it. Especially a team as bad as Detroit has been.
Maybe the group, led by your leadership, will see these drafts as PR functions and brilliant use of humor

They should do that for all games.

Not as a mark of respect or anything - just that preseason football is the worst thing in the world, and the 4th game in particular is the nadir of those matches.

They should play flag football or helmetless football in pre-season to see if it reduces injuries. Players would be forced to stop using their head as a weapon and tackle properly.

(That`s my soapbox rant used for the season).

I'll spend every Sunday for the next few months wondering how fellas getting paid millions upon millions are worse at tackling than amateur rugby players. You can hire all the DCs you want but if you could just teach your players how to tackle you could stop so many more plays on defence.
So bloody what? If you watch football to be absolutely miserable then go watch cricket.

I played Rugby {at school} and amateur American Football here in the UK in the early 90s. I came to the same conclusion. You see good tacklers and tackles in the NFL, but the protective gear has given generations of football players a sense of invulnerability and the desire for the "big hit" over the solid wrap-up tackle. I enjoyed junior football here much more because it was more like Rugby, but with the plays and tactics of football. Maybe its time to dust of the old leatherheads?

Some plays could be stopped after 6-8 yards but turn in to 20-30 yard plays cause 3 fellas miss a tackle. They make the initial contact but they're upright with their arms not really in the correct place. As you say they're looking for a highlight reel hit whereas if they just wrapped the arms they would save their teams a lot of yards and a lot of points.

You'd wonder how no one has cottoned on to this yet?

It'll be good to have him on every week. I don't mind Reynolds, even if he is a bit of a cheerleader. I did boo him at Wembley last year, but that was just amusing panto stuff.

Dara started off well and went robo-presenter like Kevin. Jeff is an interesting fella, but his career {coaching} trajectory seems terminally downward: NFL/College/Obscure College/CFL.

I like Mike Carlsson best, but he`s really shunted around the stations.

Yep, they're miles under the cap so could afford it.
DeShaun Kizer seems to have progressed quicker than they thought so no need to keep Osweiler.

Osweilier is still getting re-employed quicker than Colin Kaepernick though, no matter how useless he is.

Looks like Kaepernick been blacklisted by NFL teams, don't think you'll see him on an NFL team again.

For less then 800k cap hit for the Broncos, probably the cheapest way to get a backup with some games under his belt. Lynch is injured for at least 4-6 weeks.

Almost there. Just about made it, but it was a close run thing.

Anyone want to post predictions for division/conference winners?
I'll start:

Steelers 11-5
Titans 9-7
Patriots 13-3
Chiefs 10-6
Raiders, Ravens WCs

Packers 11-5
Carolina 10-6
Giants 11-5
Seattle 12-4
Dallas, Atlanta WCs

Seattle to gain SB49 revenge on the Pats in February.

Reading one of the Dolphins forums, FMs on there saying it might be moved to the bye week as both teams have the same bye week this season. Last thing you'd want is a football game in the same area when most are preparing & or evacuating for a Hurricane.

I'm doing an NFL Fantasy Draft tonight.  I don't know too much about NFL, so any advice would be welcome.

Are there any players I should avoid?  For example, my mate drafted Costa in the Premier League football one we did as his first pick - which looks a fail as he won't play under Conte.

Any things I need to look out for?

See my mates are taking this very seriously, unlike me, as they know a lot about it.

The only bit of advice they gave me was to not go for a QB early as they all get good points.

I was told to get a Running Back & Wide Receiver first as they get big points and there is not too much depth in those positions.

I might have to YOLO it.  ;D
