I've always admired his ability as a footballer, he's a great box to box midfielder. Its a shame that he's let his temper get in the way of what would have been a good International career but he only has himself to blame.

The cigar incident with the young lad at some Christmas do, while he has his attributes as a footballer he is still a very unhinged individual. Thug on the pitch and off it too, have read before that he blames drink as his common denominator for his rage. Whilst it is a contributory factor it can not excuse his disgusting antics whilst playing football and getting paid for it very very well.

Many many young lads do not make their dream of becoming a professional footballer but Barton was gifted with that chance and well and truly blew it big time.

I don't think anyone can defend Joey there. Saying that others have done worse (not sure that's true myself) is no form of argument really. That was a shitty thing to do and he's lucky it was Pedersen and that he reacted the way he did.
