So sorry to hear that Raul mate. Lost me Da 15 years ago now. I can't believe it's that, but my sister told me it was. So it must be. But not a day goes by without me thinking of him. And this will be no consolation right now, I'd have chinned somebody if they'd said it to me at the time, but it's true... it gets easier. He'll always be with you. But that will turn into a nice feeling instead of the horrible pain you must be feeling now.

My deepest sympathy Raul love.  Your Dad sounds a wonderful person.  You were blessed to have him, as he was blessed to have you.
Rather a day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep.

I can only be nice to one person a day.  Today is not your day.  Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.
I tried being reasonable.  I didn't like it.  Old enough to know better.  Young enough not to give a fuck.

Raul,

I just seen your post about your Dad and am extremely sorry to hear of such terrible news.

Take care Brother.

I just noticed my mistake and came back to edit it.
Silly me, I left out the word "sorry" in my original post.

Why do you think charities still use these companies?  It's actually their most 'profitable' form of fundraising.  TV adverts, events, etc, cost more per donation than direct fundraising.

Anyway, agreed Andy, it's a fucker.  More and more of us will get it as we live longer and we pollute the air etc.

My Nan had it a couple of years ago, did chemo along with complications (lost weight, constant sickness and fatigue), it went into remission. Back to normal for a year or so. Then it comes back, only now she simply doesn't have it in her to go through what is necessary to get rid of it completely. Talking about removal of the bowel and more. She's decided that its best to try and slow it down as much as possible, but seemingly accepted that its a matter of time since trying to get rid of it would ruin what's left of her life even if it worked.

Think I'd probably do the same at 80 years old to be honest. You kinda expect poor health at that age, but to beat it in her late 70s, only for it to redevelop when its already taken its toll on her...

What a twat of a disease.

My Dads a similar age and hes just got out of hospital and wend straight to the pub.  Its understandable.
My Mum fought Breast Cancer a few years ago. She was late 50's at the time.  The chemo worked and shes now free of it, however the Chemo really fucked her up and shes not really recovered. Good luck mate.

Similar thing happened to me Dad. Got Leukemia. Beat it after 9 months first time round. Only for it to come back 4 years later more aggressive then ever to finish him off. He simply didn't have the fight left in him second time round. It was horrible to see him waste away like that.

Had stage 2 reconstruction on my nose today (nasal flap division), using skin from my cheek. Looks ok, all done under local anesthetic though, must have had 10 needles around my nose/cheek area!

Stitches out next week, then hopefully if the new skin has 'taken' just a healing process.

As I said in the Skin cancer thread I started(sorry wasn't aware of this existing thread!) I'm lucky the type of
cancer I had (BCC) does not spread from the primary site, which was the side of nose.

Also to those who didn't see my previous post, BCC is a form of cancer mainly caused by over exposure to the sun/sunbeds.I was a bit unlucky on that front cos I'm not fan of the hot weather or used a sunbed in my life, but it is a warning to anyone on here (or their family and friends) who may over do their time in the sun etc.

If you do develop any small spots or lesions that continually scab over but refuse to heal get them checked out, a biopsy will quickly confirm whether they suspect a BCC, that's what I did, so get to your doctor without hesitation if you have such signs/symptoms.

The surgery I underwent was called a MOHS procedure and the staff that carried it out at St Helens Hospital where brilliant every step of the way.

So take it from me, though not life threatening this has not been a pleasant experience, and I will have a couple of nifty scars on my face as a result of it, so just beware in the sun!

Thanks for the support I received in response to my previous post by the way...much appreciated and I return that support to anybody else who either themselves or people close to them have gone through any kind of episode of cancer, my thoughts are with you.

Long story but will keep it short....Brother diagnosed with skin cancer in November but still waiting on a biopsy which is occurring next week. Looks pretty serious as has apparently 20 spots around his body at this stage, foolishly ignored early signs but still hoping for the best. His wife wants him to go the States as she thinks the local treatment in Ireland is a joke. Im concerned she is jumping the gun as should give the local Dr a chance especially considering they wont have medical coverage in the States so any costs come straight out of pocket. They are struggling financially but fully understand their wishes for immediate care. Any advise would be welcome. Thanks

Has he been given any indication on what type of cancer it is? There are three main types of skin cancer. You have basal cell carcinoma (which my mother had and still has flare ups of) and squamous cell carcinoma. These two cancers are much more treatable compared to a melanoma but that is also treatable in many cases. Given that you said it looks pretty serious I'm thinking that it could be a melanoma but as I said I'm wondering if he has been given an idea on what it might be.

Thanks for the input as he & his wife says its basal cell carcinoma. I have had that myself but caught it early but his seems to be spreading as they were discussing it "spidering" into his jaw. There is different stages to skin cancer and They have sent pics to a Dr in California where she is from. He is very concerned but without a biopsy its all guesswork at the moment. I told her not to panic and at least get a biopsy here in Ireland in the next two weeks but she wants to go to the US immediately and get it treated.

All well & good if they were wealthy but Im afraid they will get into massive debt. At least with a biopsy they will have more information in hand and better prepared to make a decision. As I said she has no faith in the Irish health system but Im not sure the US is any better especially if they find out that his is very treatable here. She is definitely panicking but just hope the brother can take a deep breath, get his results here before he makes the next big decision.

If I wanted a full body check of all my moles could my GP do this? Or would I have to go private?

Celine Dion just lost her brother to cancer, only days after her husband died of the same thing.  Damn.
I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.
