Liverpool FC vs Man City, Sunday 13 April KO 1:37pm
« on: April 7, 2014, 03:27:10 pm »
'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.' Bill Shankly

We all know this to be untrue, there is one thing far more important and that is family. On Sunday we will remember and honour our fallen family once more. 25 years of pain and anguish have gone by, but the hole they have left behind in the fabric of our great club will never be filled. On Sunday we will all come come together and glory in the thing that binds us all together and that is Liverpool Football Club...and remember the 96

The sleeping giant has finally woken from its sleep and it is ravenous. We have devoured almost all who have stood before us this year and in our ancestral home we will take on the new threat from Manchester. It's been a long time since we were truly in a title race and the roller coaster of emotions has gotten more turbulent with each passing game. Sunday will be no different against a team who like us possess wonderful attacking options. Make no mistake they will come for the win on Sunday but I doubt they will ever have experienced anything like Anfield when it truly believes. The crowd will demand blood and nothing less, and of our players we ask only that they play without fear and with the desire that is so epitomised by Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez. Every tackle will be an event and every pass will be scrutinized...this is it there is no place to hide.

There is no better time to be a Liverpool supporter, we are clawing ever so slowly towards our destiny and what a glorious ride it promises to be.

*edit just for Shauno* ;)

Last season we could barely scrape 3 wins in a row and now we sit on a run of 9. This has been obviously been a team effort but our attacking 6 (including Stevie) have been phenomenal and its no coincidence that our players feature so highly in most recorded stats. Rodgers has developed a system that makes us greater than the sum of our parts and let our superstars shine.

City while blessed with billions have at times looked vulnerable but the individual quality that the possess is wonderful. Toure, Silva, Kompany, Zabaleta and Aguero are matchwinners comparable to our own. Where we have the edge is mentality, desire and Rodgers. Brendan will have a Plan A, B and X if need be to deal with Pellegrino's boys.

In our last 5 Premier League fixtures against City we've drawn 3 and lost 2. The reverse fixture at The Etihad was particularly painful as we were the better team for vast portions of the game. The Sterling goal that never was could have been a deciding factor.

I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Most important game since the CL semis in '05 and '07? I think so. Gonna be very special and emotional, a real title race for Liverpool and ofcourse the Hillsborough anniversary. What I would give to be at Anfield on Sunday.

The inevitable atmosphere, the fact it's the Hillsborough anniversary, etc ....

We've obviously going to win. It's written in the stars.

Wouldn't be surprised if we won 3-0 like we did when Carroll scored a double.

These pre-match threads get started earlier and earlier and have less and less informative information, sentiment is nice, but personally prefer some of the pre-match threads that have some qualitative information/research.

Personally reckon the mods should designate the starting of threads to some of the scribes.

Win nicely, win ugly, but just f*cking win.

It's going to be a tight one, with quality players on both sides.

I can't see there being many clear cut chances, and it will ultimately come down to taking your chances when they come.   Put them chances away, and we'll win.

Not much I can add to this other than to say it's our biggest league game since I've been following football (since 2002). 2009 I believed but never like this. If we win we will win the league title, it's as simple as that for me. I imagine Lucas or Allen will come in for Sterling or Coutinho. Not sure if Agger will be back or if Brendan will prefer Sakho there now anyway.

Going to be unbelievably nervous but I've been to massive European nights and seen us do the business, I don't see why we can't do it here.

Good OP - should be a cracking atmosphere, after watching them play Southampton at the weekend they won't of heard anything like it.

Plenty of options for Rodgers to choose from, 4-3-3 or the diamond, Coutinho or Sterling, Allen or Lucas, Agger or Sakho our squad has really come together at just the right time.

That corridor of space between Toure and Demichelis imo could be the key if we can get Sterling in there to receive the ball and run at Demichelis. Suarez`s free-kicks havent been working lately but they might be our best chance in a game with everything at stake.

Toure as brilliant as he is at times can be a proper lazy f*cker and we need to take advantage of that as much as we can.

If I was Brendan I`d be telling our forwards to stay away from Kompany and focus on getting at Demichelis and Kolarov.

To be honest mate, I'm not that arsed about getting a homer( although it would be nice, for a change).

I just want a strong referee and linesmen, who gets their decisions right.

If we win, great. If we get beat by a better side, then painful as that would be, I can take that one on the chin.

What i don't want, is to be cheated out of anything, because the referee fucked up.....again.

Some of the officiating in the Premier League this season, has been nothing short of criminal, and It would just be nice to talk about the football, not the shit refereeing.

We get a strong referee, who gets his shit right,  -  I have no fears for us in the game.

It doesn't really as Chelsea could still overtake us by beating us. This is more of a semi final first leg, luckily the second leg is also at home :)
