One of my favourite players a few years back. More depth on our left side is certainly something we need and if we can get him cheap enough I see no reason why not.

Rise wont come back we have moved on.Anyway i would not want him to come back because the twats would come out again in full force abusing him.FFs the abuse he got for that own goal which was just a bloody mistake was sickening.

But hey, let's remember that unfortunate footnote to his career.

It's a pity that that's what so many DO remember him for.

Though I'm glad he left when he did because he needed a change for himself as well as for us.
I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

I don't recall any 'abuse' being meted out to John. If you're referring to internet 'fans' then who cares?

Maybe the fact that he's too old and not good enough will play a part in him not returning also?

Probably the best left-back ever in the history of LFC.

Shame he was forced out by clueless supporters.

If we can get him for max 20 million pounds, should dive in..

Never saw  Lindsay, Yosser, Nichol, Beglin then? He wasn't "forced out by clueless supporters". He'd been off form for ages and a replacemant was need.

Don't think it was a mistake to let him go, he wasn't the player he was. But it was mistake to replace him with Dossena. Don't want him back, we've move on and need to find better quality.

JAR was fairly good on both ends of the pitch -- often popping up in positions to have a pop on target.   Unfortunately, he went through an 18 month period where he didn't get a single shot on: blasting over from every conceivable angle.  His reputation was built early on the fact that a couple of his absolute howitzers found the back of the net - i.e. Roberto Carlos.  It looked like he was on the waning end of his career, and I'm surprised there is talk of having him back.  I'm sure he could do a job for us, but why?  Is he an improvement on our current set up?  Save your pennies.

Are you saying we should spend up to 20 million pounds on JAR?!!
Fucking hell you cant be serious!?.....

Loved him during his time here but he aint good enough anymore. Personally though, whenever I think of him, the own goal is not what comes to mind, its that free kick against the Mancs....what a fucking rocket.

Good servant to the club, but I think it was the right thing to do to move him on.

Not sure I'd want him back to be honest, still a good player, but, to use a common expression - not 'Liverpool quality' anymore.

I don't think he'll come back to be honest. He's not the player he once was and he's 30-31 now, or sth like that. Plus to that he'd be on a huge wage bill (does remind me of Jovanovic and Cole who have seen their best years, and still are on huge wage bills without playing much). He just doesn't seem like the type of signings we're supposingly aiming for nowadays.

Great player on his day and we had a lot of good moments with him in the side, some great moments in fact. Probably needed a fresh start which he got at Roma and we as a club have struggled somewhat to replace the form we saw from him in the mids 2000s. For 2 or 3 years there he was playing at a level that was world class and just delighted we got the best out of him.

PS - Has scored 33 goals in 80 games for Norway I think which is just fecking outstanding. Norway must love the lad as there is some "world class strikers" out there like Rooney who dont hit the international net as often.

Frankly i wan't Insua to take over with Robinson as cover. Seems like we will be spending a bit so to keep costs down, why not bring back Insua who is still good enough to hold the line there.

You're obviously forgetting the fact that Insua isn't very good.

Returning to Liverpool this summer to be first choice? It's hard to believe you're being serious.

No he wouldn't be. Aurelio is still leagues ahead of him, and I'd rather play Robinson in all honesty.

Aurelio is neither a first team player nor a reliable backup.  He is a luxury that sucks up wages and we should never have offered him another contract.

Your reply to that will surely reference Agger..and I suppose you're right, but Agger is still young enough that there is a slim chance of putting it behind him..does anyone honestly think Aurelio can put in a run of games ever again?  Quality is pointless if he can't play when we need him.

It has gotten to the point where not only is he never fit, but even in the blue moon occasions we get him on the pitch we're likely to need a sub when he breaks down.  He needs to retire.

Still rather have an unfit fabio than a 'fit' JAR
