After watching Murder on a Sunday morning' I searched for other true crime docs and found a few to watch, one was called Zoo.  Made in 2007

Not sure what to say

It was a difficult watch.  I wont watch it again, spent the whole time watching it with a furrowed brow

A very challenging subject matter that was handled well in my view.  Shot well and you kind of have to do some work when watching it to piece together the actual story from a timeline perspective but its pretty clear what the doc is about

If you are going to watch it, its not about a Zoo, have a quick google first so you can make an informed choice

ESPN's 30 for 30

OJ - Made in America

As of Wednesday PM in the UK there have been 2 episodes aired that I've downloaded

A magnificent documentary that blends a number of racial, social, political and cultural elements into the portrayal of a complex and compelling character

Can hardly wait for the next 3 episodes in this opus

Its truly documentary at its finest
Watched the first two of this and it's been brilliant so far. Really delves into the racial tensions and the miscarriages of justice in LA at the time which ultimately plays a massive part in the OJ trial, looking forward to watching the next 3.

Finished it

That really was an excellent series

Whilst the trial was covered extensively here when it happened and the 2nd arrest, I didn't really pay much attention at the time (with it being an American, I only really knew him from Naked Gun) the stuff they filled in between like his early life and career and later life in Florida was really interesting and revealing

Cant recommend this highly enough - 5 x 90 minute episodes, really really good

Working my way through The Money Masters. It's from 1996 so it is outdated but the theories hold true today. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-money-masters/

Possibly mentioned in here already. 'The Hunting Ground' documentary details the incidence of sexual assault in US colleges and the measures taken by the institution's admins to sweep it under the mat. Athletes are protected at the expense of justice.

'Poverty Inc.' on Netflix also worth a watch.

Just watched the first episode of a 3 parter on BBC 2, Exodus: Journey to Europe.

Very good. But a bit of a dark watch. It was done in two separate styles. Normal documentary style and footage from mobile phones, showing the journeys undertook by different refugees and their families from Syria to Turkey and then onwards to Greece.

One bit showing mobile footage of one of their journeys from Izmir to the Greek Islands in a little dinghy was heart in the mouth stuff. Also allowed for the refugees to be seen as people and not statistics (as I've always done anyway) as it went into their lives before they had to flee Syria. They were largely educated, self sufficient people who had abandoned all that through necessity and where now selling cigarettes illegally in Turkey just to get by and sleeping on the pavements in Greece.

A really good watch. Sad and difficult in parts, but also inspiring to see how much fight, resolve and determination people can have.

I imagine it'll be on iPlayer. Part 2 is on tomorrow .

There's the 1964 BBC documentary series 'The Great War' which is well worth watching, it's brilliant. It's very similar in style and format to The World At War (which it preceded) . The full series is on youtube here ...

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdEBPyoq11-7H07u7iwGM_3l-_QfxFj9B

Another great history doc I'd recommend is Peter Taylor's one for the BBC about The Troubles ... 'Provos, Loyalists and Brits'. For some reason the provos eps keep getting removed from youtube but the full series is up on dailymotion...

Had a few moments myself as well!

It's absolutely brilliant though and might be my favourite documentary series ever. For those a bit apprehensive about delving into a story that has been covered a lot already, this documentary is as much about race relations in America as it is about the Juice.

There are moments in it that are simply draw dropping, both from the interviews and some of the shit that went on. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Not sure if anyone else caught this (I heard about it on Fresh Air podcast I think)

Documentary Now!
is a series by Bill Hader and Fred Armisen.  They take famous documentaries and spoof them

Series 1 had spoofs of Grey Gardens (very funny), Thin Blue Line (fkin hilarious) and History of the Eagles (also very funny) as well as a few other weaker episodes

Series 2 has just started with a spoof of War Room (the documentary about the 92 US election and the Clinton campaign team)

Its a bit hit and miss but I was laughing out loud at the Thin Blue Line (episode 4 of the first series) and I don't do that nearly enough

Also watched a good documentary on a plane the other day called Weiner, the story of Anthony Weiner, disgraced former US governor who ran for Mayor of New York - Very interesting portrait through fly on the wall, of a clearly floored and egotistical man

Just watched the Jon Benet Ramsey thing that was on in the US.  I t had a lot of publicity

Its with that ex FBI profiler and ex British police woman who do podcasts on cold cases (I think) - they did one on Steven Avery

Fucking horrible film making

Fairly typical US tabloid (ish) 'TV documentary', tons of shots of people nodding, looking wistfully at each other.  Telegraphing their findings without actually saying anything tons of exposition by the main two then re-iteration by the other experts.
There is one scene where the bloke is calling the prosecuting DA in the case, they get cut off and they play it for drama....but they just got cut off due to a bad mobile signal

Spoiler
early on - its made pretty clear that the brother did it and the parents covered it up but it takes over 2 hours to come to that conclusion
[close]

Could have been an interesting exploration but it wasn't - it was lazy OTT drek

Yes, difficult to watch at times, and she really moved me, and also nailed the issue "he mugged you off Louis" summed it up. Savile mugged a lot of people off.
