Anyway, hope he plays soon.  That Glens Johnson guy seems a bit lost in the leftback world.

Wow, I'd never seen that one...it's on an entirely different level from all of the others. The acrobatic, in-no-way-would-anyone-actually-lean-like-this nature of it. The narrow depth of field of the camera lens. The way hand grips forearm as though it were a 2-seam fastball. The facial expression that says "the mushrooms have just started to kick in, and there's something very interesting just a smidge to the left of the camera." Amazing.

Shows how much Kolo has to teach our young players, including Moreno. We should keep him around for one more year.

Ha! Great analysis.

Integrate him into the squad Rodgers, snap snap, no time to lose. Although City's a tough game to come into I'll admit. Do you think we should throw him into the team against City, lads?

I think he will start. He has been training with the team since before Southampton and he has played for Sevilla in pre season so should be match fit and ready to go. Manquillo had about the same amount of time and he was thrown in as well.

At first I agreed with you and thought Rodgers may wait until the villa game instead of throwing him into a game against a very scary City team or important game against Spurs, but after seeing Johnson against Southampton I think he may throw him straight in

My concerns would be more on knowing the system and how to coordinate with the other defenders as opposed to fitness or sharpness.

Alberto Moreno desperate to make Liverpool debut against Man City

Aug 24, 2014 22:30 By James Pearce

Spanish left-back is hoping to get the nod to start ahead of Glen Johnson

Alberto Moreno is desperate to make his Liverpool debut in tomorrow's mouthwatering showdown with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish left-back is hoping to get the nod to start ahead of Glen Johnson having got a full week’s training under his belt following his £12million move from Sevilla.

Moreno would relish the opportunity to lock horns with City winger Jesus Navas, who he played alongside in his homeland.

Spain international Navas spent a decade at Sevilla before moving to Manchester City for £15million last year.

“I’m fit and ready and I’d love to play,” Moreno said.

“I’ve been aching to have a chance to play against Jesus Navas. That would be great.

”I haven’t spoken to him since I signed but hopefully I will see him on Monday night.

”I know him very well because when I first broke into the first team squad he was the one that I’d always be up against because he was on the right wing and I’d be on the left.

”He’s like lightning and he’s also very unpredictable which makes him very difficult to stop.”

Brendan Rodgers admits Moreno has caught the eye in training since his arrival from Spain.

The Reds’ pursuit of the 22-year-old went on for three months as negotiations with Sevilla dragged on.

However, Rodgers was delighted to finally land his No 1 left-back target and he believes Moreno could nail down that spot for years to come.

As well as being solid defensively, the manager says the Spain international will boost Liverpool’s attacking threat.

”He has got huge potential,” Rodgers said.

“We needed a left sided player. We monitored him for a while and when we felt we got the value and the worth we were able to clinch the deal.

”He’s a really exciting young player. *When you watch him, he’s very attack minded, very quick and he serves the ball really well.

“At 22, he’s hungry to succeed. He has got improvements to make but he’s one of the players we’ve brought in this summer who is ready to play straight away.

“We had a practise game here last week and he looked very good.

“He’s one who is coming straight out of La Liga. He’s come from the Europa League champions.

“He’s done great. Last season he was one of the top left-backs in Europe and was highly sought after. He’s a boy that will fit well into our way of working.

“We’ve seen young Javier Manquillo come in with his hunger and shoe his willingness to go forward on the right.

“This boy Moreno is the same on the other side.

“He’s super quick, strong and a good passer of the ball.

“At that age he can come in and be here for a number of years.

“I’m really looking to build something here over the coming years but I also need players ready to play now and he’s one of them.”

Barring the unfortunate moment, he was class. Easily more talented than the other options we have at fullback .

Massively impressed with his character today. Played through the pain, tough learning curve, but it'll be worth it.

Welcome to Liverpool Alberto.

He did what we need from him going forward. Quick, direct and gets the ball in to the box without overcomplicating it. Some good link up with Markovic when he came on as well.

Wasn't luck. Just dilly-dallied too much. In this league, you've got to react quickly and deal with it. He'll learn. He was good otherwise. Looking forward to seeing him bomb down the left more often.

Kind of a nightmare debut for him.  Didn't get much support from Allen or Coutinho.  1 goal from 1 mistake but for my money he wasn't at blame for either of the other goals.

Tiny mistake aside, he was very good.

Blocked a lot of crosses, got forward with pace a few times but his crossing was my favourite bit. That's the best consistently good crossing from a Liverpool fullback I've seen in a while. Every cross was very accurate.
