How boring is it though when the opposition put everyone behind the ball as soon as we get hold of the ball.

Why would they do anything different ?
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

It's only a matter of time before Redmond unlocks our shaky defense.

Not sure why people are blaming Can. Not doing too much wrong

These will be difficult to crack..they have a good gameplan

(can we buy Redmond and Bertrand  at half time  :-X)

He's not doing much wrong because he isn't taking enough chances in possession. It's always a simple pass to pass on responsibility or several too many unnecessary touches that slows our play down. He's far from the only one to be fair but he has been like this every game recently.

*sigh*

Coutinho is struggling for space as he is double-marked. Can is redundant and offers nothing going forward amnd not a lot going back. There is an easy solution to that...

Matip is doing well, brings a calm head to proceedings. Lovren not so well, so many stupid balls. AAT is being targetted and is struggling.

Sturridge is being greedy but is at least involved, but Firmino, as a result, is peripheral. His work rate is great though.

Big part of the problem for me is Milner, he is not making runs wide and stretching the game, all the runs in behind are from AAT. This has been a  problem for a few weeks now, he looks like he is tired.

Agree with all of this but some of the defensive work Milner has done in winning the ball back early was good, I thought.

Not great. Henderson apart from doing absolutely nothing going forward simply chases the ball back when they attack, he just doesn't read the play and leaves men free. Not his fault though that we have no pace and no players like Mane who can beat a man or two and open things up. Everything is played in front of Southampton so we are all in a line when they break.

For me I'd focus on using Milner and TAA to try and get round the back - but not on their own, one twos and pick a man out. This game is one we can win,

Totally agree..... Can understand why we haven't freshened the squad up... i honestly think it's going to cost us a top 4 spot.

Maybe we can't get anyone that Klopp wants at the moment?

Enjoyable game, ref is doing well, letting the game flow.

Trent A A excellent again.

The kid has massive potential but Southampton are aiming everything down his side and Redmond is having a field day. Can or Henderson are not giving him much cover at all. Going forwards TAA looks the goods but he is getting sucked in too easily on the Southampton counter.

We do look a little toothless. Can is a player that just confuses me. He looks slow and ponderous at the moment but is capable of something special. Personally I'd take him off and put Gini on. We need to be quicker in transition and quicker moving the ball. Gini overs this.

The reality is, is that if Southampton had of taken their chances, this could have been embarrassing over the two legs. They have let us off the hook so we need to take advantage.
I'd rather play for Liverpool Reserves than Everton.

No pace in the team again and teams just park the bus against us and we can't break them down. Carbon copy of last season.

We really need to step it up in the second half

They commit plenty of men forward but have defensive discipline and balance. They aren't parking the bus, it's up to us to transition far quicker instead of being obsessed with possession.

2016 was a terrible year for the world and a great year for Liverpool.

Hopefully our form in 2017 means Trump will be impeached, Brexit will be reversed, and Le Pen and Wilders will be humiliated in their respective elections.

The Tadic chance (I think) was quite fun, where he just stood in his own area watching what happened

There's literally no point to him as a player at the moment apart from filling a spot. There's nothing he's doing which even the likes of Ejaria couldn't do much more effectively.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Actually think Can is playing better than recent form, but that one extra touch is just slowing us down too much. In fairness he's not the only one doing it. If we are going to get caught on a counter I'd like it to happen while we're trying the fast/one touch football of a few months ago.

Nothing to lose now. Just score!
Can did nothing nothing in that first half an academy player couldn't do.

Agree with all of this but some of the defensive work Milner has done in winning the ball back early was good, I thought.

Milner looks tired I think, he seems to be a step too slow both attacking and defending right now. Not sure Moreno is the answer though.
