Hello  :wave

904 2005 is a stunning wine for the price, tartier oak than a very tarty tree, but beautiful.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

I'd like to get some more of the 2001 (have one) and some 2004 (have none,...)

Heading to Florida on sunday. Not too experienced on american wines as they tend to be highly priced on our shores. Any hidden gems or suggestions for that extra treat ?
It’s not even about individuality, it’s about the team. Our game was based on his controlling of the tempo. Squeeze the life out of the opposition and then strike. That is our game. Like a pack of pythons.

Finally arrived in Gironde . The vines are fucked due to a cold spring so 2017 will not be a good year for St Emilion wine.

Think i'll void the 2017 vintages, they got ravaged a bit. Will pick up bits more of 2015 and 2016 over the next year or so.

If you're still there, if you can get anything half decent price wise from Napa Valley it should be pretty good. I'm sure Crimson Tank or whatever he appears to be called today will be far better placed than me to advise though.

That 09 Musar should be excellent!

Love the Footbolt and those 05 Gran Reservas too.

Right, avoid local Florida wines. Actually avoid wines from the southern states in general.

You should be able to find some excellent California, Oregon, and Washington State wines at decent prices.

Depending on where you are at in FL you might be close to a Total Wine and More.

Check them out, I have worked for them before in wine sales and teaching about wine. They have well over 9,000 offerings.

Loads of beers too.

What do you you usually drink and what is your budget per bottle?

Just picked up 3 bottles of Yalumba Samuels Garden Collection Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014 for £5 each instead of £12 each at Morrisons on a reduce to clear. Supposed to be a decent drop.

I left the Somm gig about a year ago, Missus got a new (and awesome job) across country so we left St. Louis and moved to the greater DC area. Was offered another Somm gig but declined as the hours and pay were not competitive enough. Still work a bit in wine on the weekends, selling and teaching classes. Looking for full-time work for near 10 months now, both in wine and beyond.

Wow how cool - RAWK has a resident Som in the USA. Range of backgrounds on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

for past five years or so I bulit up a friendship with my wine merchant...a good lad and a Red...my weekend trips there  where to discuss both my favourte reds...LFC and left bank Bordeaux..he alawys looked after me with what he could get in terms on none exorbitant prices.

Before I left for Amsterdam he popped round to mine to pick up some Lego I was selling and gave me two bottles from his cellar as a going away present...one was a 1997 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 'Grand Vin de Leoville', Saint-Julien, France.. I googled it and it was knocking out around £120/140 a bottle....Im not sure he meant to give me that bottle..so to be on the safe side I drank it that night...nice stuff...the most expensve bottle I've drank but not the best which shows the uniqueness of  wine when it comes to cost v quality...funny thing is when  I mentioned it to some people they questioned why I drank it ( cos of value)....thats what its bloody well for!!

Now I'm in Amsterdam Im finding my way around the wine merchants, there's the chain stuff  Gall & Gall and Grape World and a few indies which I find expensive and not much options on  left bank stuff. So if anyone can recommend a wine merchant specialising in left bank do let me know.

Back to that bottle...when I first googled it I put in 1996 by mistake and it came up £250 a bottle!...my jaw did litterally drop...when I realised my mistake and found out it was only £120/140 I was disapointed...fuck!...its just plonk!

Used to buy my wine from a v. small independent that used to work from home, but has now moved out of the wine trade for non business reasons. Used to do great tastings etc. sourced some good wines and you knew that if was in stock, it was there for a reason and likely to be good. Delivered too so really convenient.
Issue I've got is that I need an alternative. Bought a bit from Majestic which was OK. Used to do the odd wine run, but can't be arsed these days.

Any recommendations? Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a Booths.

I'm drinking plenty of Malbec at the moment - and this is probably my favourite,  for around 15 quid, not least for the artwork - but it tastes great too. Hey Malbec! or Moll-Becky as my offy calls it :D From the Norton family I believe, if you know that famous label.

Did a tour of the winery (Lopez de Heredia) that makes that when we had a trip to la Rioja. It’s a really traditional place and the tour and samples afterwards were great. Worth a visit if you stay overnight in Haro.

Anyone tried any wines from Bierzo in Spain ?  I tasted a line up of Raul Perez wines last week and was blown away with the quality for price. Try and find some of his 2014 La Vitoriana or his Ultreia St Jacques. Both are not over the top price wise and really cool wines.

Haven't drank it yet but I got a Bierzo wine recently. Pizarras de Otero 2015. Supposed to be interesting due to the slatey minerals in the local Bierzo soil, but good value at less than a tenner. I'll let you know what it's like (can't see it lasting much longer!)

I love Spanish wines in general. If you're looking for alternatives to Rioja or Ribera del Duero, then there's some good ones made in the Toro region (v.near to Ribera territory) and also over the other side of that northern swathe of wine country is Navarra. Had some really good reservas from there.

Yep, want to do Haro as i also get quite a bit from La Rioja Alta as well.
Can recommend this winery Jon. http://www.valsarte.com/inicio-solana-de-ramirez-abalos-la-rioja
It's not far from Haro in a village called Abalos. It's nothing fancy but the wine was fantastic and great value. They gave us a little tour as well, nothing like the big commercial tours, but really friendly and lots of free samples :)

Also if you're in that area you've got to visit Laguardia. Beautiful little walled town. We got there on a day they were having a bull run. Didn't know it was going on but wondered why the streets suddenly got very quiet. Nearly ended up getting caught up in it!
