At the moment, we have a PM who was not even elected about to steer the country through it's most important negotiation in its history. This way when the Tories and May are voted in, there won't be any (less?) finger pointing after.

At least the parties will have properly thought out manifestos so at least we can see where they stand.

Unlike the referendum when what passed for a manifesto was painted on a bus.

They're 20 points ahead in the polls. It's that simple.

It was just too tempting a poll to turn down for her. Seems like only the cabinet was briefed this morning and the junior ministers didn't know, so the decision was probably only made over the weekend on the back of that poll.

Is there provision within the Labour Party rules for a snap Labour leadership election? Who knows what might happen if Labour can install someone already somewhat well-known, and who simply isn't Corbyn, before early June? I'm not saying they'd win the GE but it could put a massive spanner in the works of the Tories.

Yes, the members may well vote Corbyn back in but roll the dice and see how many of his supporters might have second thoughts at the last hour.

Presumably she's doing this as they'll clearly win now and give her another five years. The longer she leaves it the less popular she's likely be.

It's exactly what Gordon Brown should have done in 2007.

No doubt the Tories will easily win this but it could backfire on them regarding Scotland. This gives the SNP the opportunity to run on a clear manifesto promise to campaign for a referendum, rather than their slightly vague 2016 manifesto.  If the SNP win a most of the seats on a high percentage of the vote (possibly even over 50%), the Tories will no longer be able to say there is no mandate for another referendum.

It needs a 2/3rds majority in the House of Commons but I don't think Labour can stop it. If they vote this bill down they'll be seen as not wanting to get into power.

I'm quite lucky. My MP is a Labour candidate in a sea of Tories, and reflects my views on the progressive right of the party. Assuming Corbyn doesn't go down the route of demanding all candidates must be selected again by the membership before standing, I can vote for him and for Labour - but in so doing, effectively voting against Corbyn and returning someone who might help the party recover sense after the total disaster coming our way.

I'm in a similar situation with a competent and accessible MP. The seat is a marginal which oscillates between Labour and Tory.

I don't think the local party is too keen on deselection so he'll get my vote. If they get rid I won't be supporting Labour.

Corbyn went with the majority of the people on the vote, can't hold that against him, even though I have reservations about us leaving the EU - not as depressed as some in here over it as I can see positives from it.

Fair point. Labour are in a dire position; face electorial disaster or be seen as not wanting to win power. I think it's better to grit their teeth and vote this one through, the Tories will win this but it's the right decision for Labour long-term in my opinion.

Is there a possibility of a Labour/Lib-dem coalition?

Possible if it also covers SNP. But would mean Labour don't lose so much and Lib Dems get back to where they were. Or Lib Dems doing miracles to overcome their handicap in how their votes are spread around constituencies.
