I was looking for that one on the Guardian and couldn't find it. That might be his best one.

Embarrasingly I found it by doing a Google Image search for 'David Squires dildo'. Just hope the missus doesn't go through my search history  :duh

One of the best parts of a Tuesday for me.

His recent one on technology in football was brilliant too:

I think he's great, he always stays the right side of the line between cynicism and enthusiasm.  It puzzles me how he's so good actually - I've heard him speak and he didn't come across as anything other than an ordinary guy who draws a bit; he said he doesn't even watch that many games, but his stuff's always stuffed full of the latest references, and very specific to Britain too.  How he gets it all so nailed-on from his desk in Australia is beyond me.

I wonder if he was a teen obsessed like a lot of us were in the nineties and then it fell away as life happened, like has happened to a lot of us.

Some of his stuff is too clever and nuanced not to have been a big watcher of footie at some point in his life.

I'd highly recommend his recent book 'The Illustrated History Of Football' came out last year and it's as hilarious as his weekly offerings.

Love David Squires. Didn't know they came out every Tuesday... they would just be a must read whenever I saw a new one. Much like Said & Done on that paper. Some big laughs reading these ;D Great idea for a thread... hadn't seen the Chelsea one :lmao

Quite brilliant thread, Squires is a genius sometimes. The blue dildo one absolutely cracked me up, giggling like a 13 year old schoolboy when I should know better. But it sums that whole thing up perfectly.

Squires is great. I've never really been into cartoons but his are consistently funny. Eddie Howe's tiny face is my favourite recurring feature.

He's very, very good. I'll admit that there have been a couple where the humour has been a little bit too "pop culture references but with football men" for my tastes, but I genuinely look forward to his cartoons every Tuesday. His artwork is getting better and better too.

I'm thinking about ordering his book. I had been leaving subtle hints about wanting it in the run-up to Christmas, but my wife bought me a Swiss army knife instead. Hopefully I'll understand all the references without a comment section to point out all the things I missed.

Each cartoon has a few paragraphs about what part of football history he's showing.

There was a good interview with him on the Second Captain podcast a couple of months ago. He mentioned that being based in Australia it's quite hard for him to know from afar which references are known by a large portion of British readers and which are just obscure references that are popular amongst his social media bubble. He nails it most of the time but, even as someone who wastes far too much of my life online, I don't get a few.

Bought the book, absolutely do not regret it. I've been laughing out loud at some of his writing, which is brilliantly tongue-in-cheek. The tone feels a little different (perhaps a bit more timeless rather than reliant on current footballing and popular culture references) to the Guardian comics, but the humour is still there. Great stuff.

I skimmed ahead to our Champion's League victory and spotted Rafa's bell end on the page, so that's going to be quite the treat when I get to it.
