Why dont they send people undercover to buy off the touts and trace the tickets back . The touts are not exactly discreet anytime I have been there .

Seems to me its good something is happening but the means they are doing it is wrong
d or why don't they just stand on Walton brick road with the coppers and instead of talking and watching the touts selling the tickets and do nothing about it and instead arrest them take the tickets and find out that way

It's not illegal to resell tickets, I think the only bit that isn't legal is selling on the street without a trading license. The police won't do anything, same as they never do outside gigs.

The club could send people out to buy and then trace them but they're trying to make people worried by checking randomly. The trouble is that the touts won't be arsed cos they'll likely use lots of sources.

By proof of purchase do they just mean the text? I don't take any other proof of purchase with me to games.

Well - I don't get one! I don't get confirmation e-mail I don't get text...every time when I buy a ticket on my member's card I need to go to my purchase history to check if a actually bought it! And now they wont to check something they even didn't send me?
Come on - it's a joke...

There's a good idea right there.

Make up a nonsense story that will get people talking, put it on twitter and then share it on a few forums, and bingo, you get yourself a few hundred new followers!

It wasn't my tweet by the way, don't even know the lad that said it. Just thought it was interesting, and it seemed the next logical step after they've started questioning the local sales

Excuse my ignorance a bit but who are they trying to make worry . Surely its the touts they should be after no ? 60 pound Sterling is  a lot for a regular footie fan to pay I feel but the people who are say in the City on business trips or stags mightnt even support Liverpool  decide oh lets go to anfield to see if I can a ticket, they might  pay 150 to 200 for ticket , arent they the type u dont want in the stadium ?

Make sure they have the correct email and phone number?

People who are selling on tickets. We all might think this is appalling by the club and they're going for the wrong targets, but they have to start somewhere. We've all been crying about this for years, now they're doing something, we want them to do something else. Only target touts, only target 'obvious' people. At least they're looking into it.

Yes it is illegal to resell football tickets.

Indeed. Section 166 of the Criminal Justice Act. Strictly speaking if you meet someone at Shankly Statue to exchange a spare that costs £53 and they give you exactly £53 you have committed an offence.

In practice, this law is not really enforced apart from against people walking around and openly offering tickets at inflated prices. Indeed that is what the law is protecting against.

Occasionally you will get some sad pathetic utter fuckin loser who was clearly bullied at school and probably watches child porn in their spare time who wants to throw their weight around because they have nothing going for them in life. A case in point is the utter fuckin prick of a Cleveland police officer I had the misfortune to encounter at Middlesbrough away years ago. I gave my mate his ticket outside and he went to give me the cash (the face value, not £1 over) and this jumped up bellend comes over saying 'that's illegal, you can't do that'. I explained that I bought mine and my friend's ticket on my debit card so it was effectively just money owed, but this fuckin prick decided I couldn't do that. So I had to give my mate the ticket 'for free' and get the cash off him later. In hindsight I should have took the number off his shoulder badge and named and shamed the jobsworth wanker. Although this was just before facebook and other social media started to take off.

As above it's illegal but only for football matches in the uk or for matches involving British teams

If you want to re sell Barca tickets, feel free!

This will likely catch a few out with spares for CL final in Cardiff if no British team makes it, but law is aged and rarely policed apart from Tony 's mate above!

Selling Europa League final tickets is legal tho, hence why they were on eBay

Clearly that was people's assumption! Haha
