Renovated Melwood?
« on: August 7, 2015, 04:56:51 pm »
Saw some pics on Twitter that refer to a "New Look Melwood."

Any other photos?

Controversial opinion.

They should move the training ground up to the accademy. Melwood is pretty small now. Maybe the new look is removable curtain things they were putting up to stop the team bib leaks.

Are the team bib links not through official photos? Or are the training photos usually taken earlier in the week?

I'm not sure it's that controversial. The academy has loads of land round it and less hemmed in than Melwood.

Can't see a move on the cards though, they've just had new pitches laid at Melwood (imagine this is part of the 'new' look.

The club have openly said they'd like to move the first-team to the Academy one day.

I don't know about the official photos but the bib leaks were definitely coming from people looking over the wall at certain points (then posting on forums)

In Carra's book im sure he said it was one of the worst things they did - splitting 1st team & youth set ups. - if its all together then transition from one to the other is easier..

The club didn't really have much choice, as Melwood has no space to expand into and with all the required facilities to be classed as a top class Academy we had to move somewhere.

What should of happened is around 2000 or so when Melwood was massively renovated, they should of moved everything to the Kirkby site which opened a few years prior.

Yep, even a very unscientific google map search of various teams training grounds show's how small and pokey Melwood is compared to other teams. The Kirkby site is huge. There's even space for expansion.

Discussions are ongoing about this. There has been talk of selling Melwood and moving everything up to Kirkby. Nothing concrete as of yet but talks are going on

Not sure it'll be anytime soon as doing a whole new entrance to Melwood - not that it's a massive job but if a decision was imminent on moving I doubt they'd bother.

The decision isn't imminent, but talks are going on.

I'd imagine Klopp has had a few things to say about it, it has never made any sense as to why they are separate anyway

It made sense because Melwood can't be expanded and it wasn't big enough to have both there anymore once the Academy expanded. Rather than going to the expense of rebuilding the main training ground (which I think hadn't long been done) they just moved the kids.

Could be. Or could be making changes to the application. Could have decided against the changes.

Could be anything really!

Klopp when talking to journalists after the game yesterday about his new contract mentioned they've had discussions about building a new academy or moving it together with Melwood.

Not sure they'll build a new academy. There is no space to have it all at Melwood, but there is at the academy, so it's more likely a new training ground would be built there than anything else.

Yeh I thought it was odd, maybe lost in translation. Unless they're going to build something completely new & move both.

Went to the academy 1 Friday night a few years back and it really is a 1st class facility. One of the coaches there commented that the kids were spoiled.

Spoiled in terms of life perhaps, but not spoiled in terms of a PL academy. LFC's academy is pretty grounded compared to others. The U21s changing room is a portakabin and done this way on purpose to keep them grounded.

Easy to sort so many issues here - Get everyone training over at the academy, move Walton Breck Road to Melwood and then expand The Kop - SORTED!

Dunno, seems like end of a era for both Everton and Liverpool to move away from West Derby and move into these super facilties outside the city.
