I've split the topic from the WC bids, particularly as it seems historic.

This is astonishing, I've waited for a day like this for many, many years.

Once charges are made I hope the individuals aren't permitted bail unless they sing like fucking canneries and expose everything.

Just watched the FBI press conference. Holy fuck. FIFA is fucked. Imagine Blatter shitting it now watching that. The game is up.

The FIFA PR guy that suggested its a good day for the organisation - he's either squeaky clean and has been hoping for such an event for years to sort the organisation out or he's the equivalent of comical Ali :)

Again, this is fucking astonishing, it's as if the trials are over and the US officials are stating as a fact what the fuckers have been up to.

Agree with someone above that the national FA's should have tackled this earlier, indeed I wonder if we'll suddenly see brave stances about hosting their own tournaments if FIFA doesn't get cleaned - something that should have been contemplated years ago.

Zuma just spend R220m on his house, I doubt he would be opposed to paying a $10m corruption bribe to FIFA.

It's about time someone had the bollocks to shake the tree and she what falls out.

This has massive implications for FIFA.  I would like the National Associations (The FA, RSFF, FFF, DFB and so on) to put huge pressure on UEFA to withdraw from FIFA.  Likewise with the National Associations affiliated to the confederations of CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, CONMEBOL and OFC.

If the shit really does hit the fan, FIFA will be out of existence within 2 years and the confederations(above) will form a new association.

And worth noting that US Attorney's have a very, very good conviction rate. I think its >90%. They move slowly and gather a LOT of evidence and don't move until they have a very strong case. So while its no guarantee that they will be convicted, they wouldn't have moved against them unless they were feeling VERY good about their case.

I think it's very unlikely the FBI would move so publically against one of the biggest international organisations in the world without knowing they had a winning case. They are pretty interested in safeguarding their reputation.

The conviction rate is actually 93% for the US government.  Somewhat helps when you can rain the IRS down on the defendant and you have almost unlimited resources to prosecute a case.  FIFA's $1.5bn in cash right now is probably less than we spend on Drone strikes in a single day....

Big mistake FIFA not giving the World Cup to the US.
I don't think the US would have minded at all if the WC had gone to Australia, South Korea or Japan in 2022. Those are all legitimate possibilities. Fair play.

But the Qatar win was so blatantly corrupt (well, more corrupt than usual for FIFA ;) ) I think it did piss off the Americans. Don't forget, the US didn't get much voting support from its local CONCACAF neighbors and it's always been known how Jack Warner in particular was a snake. The Qatar vote was the last straw and Bill Clinton (on the US WC committee) probably pushed the FBI.
