Guess when you haven't won a trophy in 22 years you need to take anything you can. Don't worry about the fact that U23 results are generally meaningless, and it's about development with most of the best players either with the first team squads or out on loan, but yeah the best youth in the world.

This is why I wouldn't want them to win anything meaningful. They'd be unbearable. Bunch of insufferable twats.

They may be 7th but they are a mile away from the top 6. A dreadful side just fortunate enough to be least woeful from 13 horrific teams.

Lukaku not replaced properly and they'll be in a new league in 2018.

Just thinking ...

Imagine they kept the defence the same next season. First off, they'll definitely buy a new starting keeper, but think about the back 4. Baines is about 33, Williams will be 33, they'll get another season out of Jagielka who is about 35ish. Coleman could quite possibly be fucked as well, he himself is not far off 30.

When Lukaku is off they'll need at least 2 strikers, one to replace him in the 11 and another one to sit on the bench (Wazza?) - Think most people would put their lives on them not finding a 25 goals striker for next season.

The midfield is about as strong as it gets for them and it's still bang average.

They also have European footy to worry about.

I think they'll finish about 12th. Would like to think they could get dragged into something though ...

Been saying this for ages. They need a starting keeper. They should be looking to upgrade at least 75% of their back-four. If they keep Lukaku, they still likely need two forwards as their two most senior back-ups are Valencia (on loan) and Kone (always injured with his contract done at season's end). Barry's replacement is probably Schneiderlin. If they qualify for Europe (which looks likely) they are going to be completely stretched. And if they do sell Lukaku, it will cost a fortune to sign a replacement who can provide a similar output. I could see them wanting to sign the likes of Hart, Rooney, Sigurdsson and someone like Keane in the summer. If they pay actual money for Rooney, they are idiots. Man Utd should be begging to give him away.
