it's a character show though, to a ridiculous degree (there are not many dramas that are so interested in character motivation that they have them
explaining themselves in the future
) which is fine by me. and because of that whole "tell the whole story, in order", you get the sense of trudging around, the shoe leather of investigation. still, it was neat that every person they spoke to during the episode pointed them towards the church, where the breakthrough happened.
the case is a backdrop, and i'm fine with a small step towards a resolution each episode as long as it does all add up to a resolution.
