Old school solutions are enjoying a bit of a resurgence recently due to key cloning/hacking becoming more prominent.

The old school solution to a steering lock like that was to cut through your steering wheel or break the cylinder. If TTs is keyless, some kind of faraday solution for the key might work better? Or just keep the key away from windows in the house etc.

I get the problem though, there are a lot of complete dicks out there.

Exactly this.

I don't live in the safest area so it's best to double-up on the security.  It's mainly for security at night. My next door neighbour is a nosey bugger and never goes out so it should be alright during the day.

Purchased a few of these and some additional top crowns...

Cheaper than the Ultimate Support versions and they seem a little bit better constructed.

Fitted the lower halfs to 2 x overhead stands and my 2 x Valan stands and then the top crowns to 3 x 2 different shockmounts and they seem to do the job rather well supporting some quite heavy valve mics like NTK's and my old MKL5000 and enabling easy swapping of them between overhead or ordinary vertical stand.

And also 2 of these ....

While I'd love a Neve DPA1070, at over 2k, I can't really justify one for my home dicking about and since these have been getting some reasonable comments on Slutz and elsewhere, I took the plunge on 2 of the latest batch to appear on Evil.

I'll perhaps go down the route of changing the inductors at some stage to overcome the known criticism of the filtering on them, but when I get time to put them through their paces, I'll post an update on how they compare with my normal goto UA6176's and DAV's.

I'm not expecting full on Neve at this price, more an improved GAP73, which these will replace, but with integrated EQ, but a reasonably close approximation to the Neve sound will do my cloth ears. If all fails, I expect to employ them for providing an alternative bit of pre colouring instead of my two old Altec 1589B's which together with the GA's, I'll probably now sell.

New Shark cordless hoover. I love the future.

279 quid in a 'Black Friday Deal', probably a swizz but we needed one.

Did the proper dad thing of opening it straight away and titting around with it, reading the manual.

Front and rear brake calipers for the bike I am rebuilding. Fronts are used, rears are new old stock and got for a bargain

The car blew the seals in the rear caliper so had to have one of those fitted

We have a few older Sony Hard Disc/DVD TV recorders around the house and wifey seems to have filled them with gigabytes of of films featuring Women in old fashioned clothing to add to her vast dvd collection of such things. So I needed to extract them via the hdmi output from the recorder and convert them to FLV/MP4 so she can play them on her Kindle/Apple notebook. There's a good few old documentaries that I've recorded too which I wouldn't mind having on my Nexus to while away long train journeys.

So I took a punt on one of these at the princely sum of £12 and I have to report, it seems to work rather well.

I've installed it on an old Dell M90 under Win7x64 and used the default drivers that MS decided it should use.

The supplied software though is useless though, just couldn't get it to work, however there is a fantastic bit of open source freeware called Open Broadcast Software that works perfectly with this and dumps anything it receives in via the hdmi and device chain all out as an FLV.

I then used Handbrake to convert from FLV to MP4 though quite possibly OBS may do that direct, I just haven't checked yet, it has a large variety of options re compression, output dimensions etc, I've barely explored it, just ran it as is to see if it would work and it did.

A happy man.
