In this opening episode, Gus has gone from a seemingly intelligent and calculating business man that he was in the last series to showing us just why and how he is in the business he is in as a boss. The man has ice in his blood. What a scene that was.

It's a real testament to the writers that they can deliver dramatic moments, both with dramatic action and slower intensity.

Loved the episode, for every reason already covered and more.

But what about that breakfast Jesse was eating in the diner? The pancakes and the syrup and cream and the bacon and sausages. Crazy yanks and their ridiculously brilliant heart attack breakfasts.

haha, that was at Denny's, which is a giant diner style chain... you can get all that stuff for like $6.  not particularly high quality food though.

anyway, the ten minute silence was simply compelling.  perfectly executed, beautifully tense.  ice cold, that gus.

You'd have never thought it. Felt more like 2 minutes. Just before the episode ended, I had a quick check to see how far in it was. I thought it was about half way through (or hoping it was) but to my surprise it was at the very end. It just completely flies in, and that's a sign of how compelling this show really is. That entire scene with Gus shows the genius of Breaking Bad in that it can suddenly just shock you without warning. Further reason to argue that this show is the best not just currently showing, but possibly the best ever made for TV. It's amazing.

I hope not - I'd really like to see him stay in it for the foreseeable......one of Breaking Bads strengths is the quality of the secondary characters, Tuco, Hank, Gus, Mike, Jane...and the marvelous Saul Goodman (anyone remember him as Porno Gill in Curb Your Enthusiasm?  ;D) .....in fact thinking about it, Im off to watch the series 4 opener again  8)

The writers should give Walter Junior a story arc of his own. The lad playing him is a good actor, but his function as character seems to be limited to reacting to what other people are doing.

I remember him from Curb, but I remember him more as Steve Grant, Larry's piece of shit agent in the Larry Sanders Show. He was basically the same as he is in Breaking Bad, but within the law ;D

One of the funniest moments in the series for me was this exchange between Jesse and Pete.

Jesse: "Jesus, how the hell do you spell “street” wrong? S-T-R-E-A-T?"
Skinny Pete: "Hey man, I’m slingin’ mad volume and fat stackin’ benjis, you know what I’m saying? I can’t be all about like, spelling and sh*t."

Jesse especially is unable to cope with the 'incident' and clearly losing the plot.

Yeah, the last episode seems to be nicely setting up the Hank and Walt confrontation that I've been longing for since Season 1.

Spoiler
But since then, we have the strained Hank and Marie relationship, the fragile Marie and Skylar relationship from the shoplifting thing, Skylar involved with laundering and Walt paying for Hank's medical expenses. So it will make the family allegiance thing alot more complex. Think the confrontation will come from an informat angle now after the last episode.

BB may be moving from AMC, who seem to be cost-cutting. So probably good if it does move. This is also bad news for The Walking Dead.

Bryan Cranston is undeniably the main attraction in terms of acting but I think Aaron Paul has been equally as impressive if not even more so as Jessie.  He started off playing him as a massive bellend, wannabe gangster type but he's had some really tender moments and the work he's doing to portray his current state and predicament is simply fantastic.
