Both of them actually.

Also Stevie Winwood had a pretty amazing voice for a teenager. Apparently recorded this when he was 17 or so, this clip is quite funny really, think he was 18 or 19 in it :P

One of the greatest voices ever...

That is music at its highest.....that is pure balm for the soul.

Like Bob Marley said: 'One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain'

Sam Cooke - Long Time Coming:

Good choice. That is the very best he ever sounded, everything that he wanted to accomplish with that song comes through in his voice, all of the emotions, especially in the first verse.

Seeing as we're following veins, my very very favourite soul singer is Otis, so here's a live Try a Little Tenderness, it being one of his best, a song that I believe really epitomises everything that he, and Stax was about, and showcases his unbelievably lovely voice.

And I saw someone mention Roy Orbison, another really good choice, he never did a lot of acrobatics, his voice was just smooth butter on glass.

And since we're talking voices over music, uno mas entry, miss Yma Sumac (aqui y aqui) La Princesa Peruviana. She never really recorded any pop music, didn't do opera, her voice is amazing though, and I think it particularly shines in the animal or bird-like vocalisations that she was so good at.

Art Garfunkel. No matter how old he gets, sweet, sweet voice.
Great to describe the term "beautiful music". That's bloody beautiful music.

Dont let me be misunderstood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klyea0oYYrE

Joni Mitchell
Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies : Sweet Jane:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHRFZFmEq9o&feature=related

And, perhaps controversially, the chap who came second on American Idol this year, Adam Lambert

Mad World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEQyz0acKNo
Ring of Fire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHe0I-tvuHI&feature=related minute or so in but worth the wait.

I don't see him on here anywhere but this man had an amazing voice...

Not the most fashionable choice but he had the most incredible range and control. I saw him in concert at Wembley. I wasn't that keen but my wife wanted to go and he was simply incredible...

Best female voice Eva Cassidy.

Whether you like Leona Lewis or not,  the girl's voice is outstanding. Infact looking back now, I still can't believe that some of her performances were on a TV talent show. This was probably one of the best live vocal performances for an "amateur" I'd ever seen at the time.

nothing controversial about mentioning Adam Lambert from American Idol, one of the omost technically gifted male vocalists (not including opera) i've ever heard, his vocal runs are in a league of their own
