13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.

6 PL teams knocked out in Round 2 and five all PL ties in Round 3 means there can only be a maximum of 9 PL teams in the last 16.

At most 9 premiership teams go through. Easy pot to pick up, basically a 50 percent chance of lucking out straight to the semis.

Sunderland v Stoke
Swansea City v Everton
Arsenal v Southampton
West Brom v Hull City
Crystal Palace v Newcastle United
Pleased with that draw for us, a home game against a non-PL side is ideal really.

Also pleased with the 5 ties above. That's 5 potential bogeys who got away games against PL sides, and Southampton should keep Arsenal honest as well and force them to play many of their regulars.

Yep play the kids and those who haven't got much first team footy so far.  So that's this lot.

Jones
Manquillo(depending on fitness of other full backs)
Flanagan
Enrique
Sakho
Agger (if he's still here)
Coates(if he's still here)
Toure
Can
Lucas (if he's still here)
Suso(if he's still here)
Assaidi
Ibe
Borini(if he's still here)
Markovic
Lallana
Lambert

Maybe phil, Allen and balo on the bench.

So it's Middlesbrough. Good draw. I'd expect to see a lot of the new players in this game. Meaning Markovic, Can, Manquillo, Moreno, Balotelli and Lambert are next to certain starters. Maybe not Moreno, could be Enrique instead. But all of those players need to play and this is a perfect opportunity.

Normally, I'd say that we should try and keep the core of the regular eleven, but this summer we've added so many players that cost quite a bit of money and they need to play.

Knocked us out of the League Cup two years running in the late 90's. Fucking hated them back then.

Win this and we're in the last 16 already right? Trouble is, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs will all cruise through you'd imagine so from the next round onwards there could be some tasty draws. We always get stitched up with tough away draws in the League Cup...Chelsea (twice), Spurs, Arsenal, United all in the last few years. Mind you, Northampton at home proved to be a tough one too!

When we won it under Kenny last time around, we`d had an all away draws I think until the semis, when we played our first home game. Not too arsed with playing away, but yeah home draws against a lower tier team is ideal.

Rodgers and Gerrard have both said winning  trophy is our objective this season. As silly as that sound's top 4 was our's last season and not necessarily winning any cups. I tipped us before the season to win this trophy and think I'll be getting on it a bit heavier now with a few more PL teams already out.

Could easily put the following team out:

                       Jones
Flanagan Coates Sakho Enrique
                         Lucas
                   Can      Lallana
             Suso                 Markovic
                       Lambert

Lallana might just need some  match fitness but I figure one of him or Coutinho won't be a starter the game before.
