I know, I was using it too. What I mean is I don't think he is really interrupting kids or doing much/anything during the players warm up or when they come out for the match a couple of minutes before - I certainly didn't see him around until he came on for the picture.

I really don't see the big deal. Yeah if he starts being on the pitch during the warm ups and getting involved with the players, and if he is doing the minutes silence like in those pics with the players, then yeah I can see a little more reason to have a whole thread about it.

For running on the pitch for a minute to have his pictures with some young mascots - it's a little over board don't you think?

Yeah, maybe - I didn't start it though. :P It's just something else to talk about on a forum I guess. I think people are probably just fearing that this is just the start and that it goes further with the warm-up, goal celebrations, etc, as you suggest.

Hopefully it doesn't, although if it doesn't I imagine some on here may riot given the outrage at being in a photo with some kids  ;D

I reckon its Ian Ayre behind the mask and costume.   He has always wanted to get onto the pitch and be a superstar to satisfy his ego, this is his chance.

The fact that going to the game, hanging round outside the ground with a bag of chips or listening to auld bastards sing and tell stories in a stinking pub should be enough entertainment for a kid. If not, they should go to dance class or some other activity. I used to fucking love it, the buzz and excitement. I started going the game when I was 8 and if mighty red came up to me then and tried 'entertaining' me, the prick would have been given a kick in the sack.

great stuff Al, brings back memories for me that, I watched my first match when I was seven V Arsenal 1950

We certainly don´t need those things (mascots)

my first game was at Stoke my grandfather from the potteries took me to see Stanley Matthews they didn't need mascots as well just the fire brigade to water the pitch,

I don't have a problem with our mascot, I actually think it's a plus when clubs have them. Now to be fair, I'm American and have lived here my entire life and just about all of our major sports teams have mascots. It's just the norm here. Personally I loved getting my picture taken with a giant Moose at a baseball game  :P

Maybe at the Soton game Mighty Red was really Balotteli in disguise, that's why he was eager to get on the pitch..but Brendan shouted,

'no not now, you will spoil the surprise you daft twat!!' and called him back.

He'll never be fully accepted until he gets into and wins a scrap with another mascot.

christ.. i'd hate to see how some of you lot would react to something actually important..

i've no problem with a mascot.. though. time and place.  keep it off the pitch once the players are out there.. no issue at all if it came out for some pics and whatnot before then.
