Failed in the 14 sale, so we’re still a ticket short (sigh)

It's just been won by a club that gets a special dispensation from the 50+1 rules. Along with Wolfsburg, Bayer are considered a plastic club by the rest of the league. The owners pump in roughly £20m a year and recently pumped in £100m to avoid administration.

There's a massive difference between a historical works team that have been in existence for 120 years and a state-funded one

to be fair to Nunez, the current 1st choice front 3 don't have much chemistry, synergy between them. They are almost playing as individuals, and don't trust each other.
Salah is going for the golden boot, and would rather shoot from anywhere in case it deflects and goes in. Its not a bad goal to have, but the team should com first.
Diaz is showboating to catch the eye of the 2 big Spanish teams., its almost like He would rather chose the most difficult route to the goal for himself, fail, than set up a teammate.

Having said that Nunez composure can be improved for sure. Its almost like his brain is thinking too fast for his body to keep up. He needs cut down on that  mate he drinks all day..full of caffeine that.. ;D

Still England's greatest spin bowler with 297 wickets at an average of 25.8 . And with all those wickets he only took 24 from LBW, which makes you wonder how many he would have had if DRS had been around

If the TCCB weren't incompetent fools and refused to pay their players, he (and many of his teammates) wouldn't have joined the rebel tour and Packers World Series, and played more games and taken at least 100 more wickets.

You can't just conclude that that's the reason just because you can't think of any examples, particularly when there are numerous examples of attacking players playing in this league who fell off a cliff at this age and then either retired or had to move abroad to extend their career a bit.

Aguero (moved to Spain at 33 after City let him leave on a free, retired shortly after). Sanchez (fell off a cliff at 30, moved to Italy 5 years ago where he's still a regular in a slower league). Going back a little further, Van Persie left the league at 31 and moved to Holland to play. Even many of the players you'd be talking about, who moved abroad, that doesn't hold true. You mention Kane (who despite costing £100m, Bayern were only willing to give him a contract to 33) and Firmino (who all but retired from competitive football by moving to Saudi Arabia at 31 because his body was struggling to keep up with PL football). Mane left at 30 not because he was lured abroad, but because those people who were in charge at the club thought he was past it (spoiler alert: he was).

Sure, but he'll be 33 when his current contract expires in little over a year's time, and we're not going to sanction anything close to £350k a week for someone at that age. You can argue with it as much as you like, but we've seen enough of these owners and know enough of Edwards to know it isn't happening. Primarily because, on the bolded part, that's just now how it works. You can't just look at someone and "think" a player in their 30s will stay at a certain level for years yet and have that be true - just because you can cherry pick 4 or 5 examples of players in entirely different leagues playing to a high level in their mid 30s, it doesn't change the fact that overwhelmingly, this is the age that nearly all players start significantly slowing down and becoming less effective, and that the final drop-off is often steep and incredibly quick.

We were having these exact same debates a year or two ago - some posters pointed to the ages of the likes of Mane, Fabinho and Firmino as being suggestive their legs had gone/were going and you had people just relentessly citing the same handful of exceptions (almost always in other leagues) over and over again as if that completely disproved the fact that nearly all players are well past their peak by 33.

We were having the same debates about Salah, and all of those people who said his legs were gone had drop a level, we will and should sell him were wrong.

Salah is not Mane Firmino or Fabinho. till date he hasn't had a bad season, all those players showed signs of decline before their last season at this club.

The Boozer / Re: Cost of living pinching
« Last post by UntouchableLuis on Today at 07:24:03 pm »
We've felt a big pinch this year but we've moved from a flat to a 3 bedroom house in a good area so it's not a huge shock.

Biggest things that drain me are mortgage interest rate (gone from having it comfy at 550 quid a month to 1550 a month. Food prices and petrol.

Our weekly shop used to be around 60 quid or so. These days we are lucky to get it at 80, most times 90 or more. We don't even get alcohol really or anything ridiculous. Just stuff like fruit, veg, fish and chicken has gone up by so much.

Council tax is a huge pain in the arse but it is what it is.

Just got to hope that after our 5 year mortgage fix comes to an end that interest rates will be less than it is now as I can't see the general cost of everything else going down any time soon. Supermarkets have been allowed to rise prices on most things, unchallenged.

Elsewhere, the ECHO reported earlier this month that FSG are also closing in on the appointment of Benfica technical director Pedro Marques as part of their new-look football operation. The Portuguese expected to take on responsibilities for player development and player pathways, similar to those of departing Liverpool elite development coach Vitor Matos.

Interesting move for Marques, seems a bit of a demotion.

I thought he was going to be an FSG employee rather than LFC/the second club?

Maybe it’s a similar role but across two clubs/potentially more it’s more demanding/rewarding?
