Chuck Berry...RIP

What can be said, an absolute legend responsible for kicking off so much....

By all accounts over the years, a bit of a difficult man to work alongside with, but his influence will undoubtedly live on for a very long time.

As long as his cousin Marvin is still with us.

One of those I assumed had died a while ago. RIP Chuck.

Crazy thing I heard about him was that he didn't travel with a band.

He'd tell the promoter to get the back-up band and it would be in the contract that he'd return some of his performance fee to the promoter if the band were good enough. He'd just show up 5 minutes before the show with his guitar, go out on stage and just start playing, and he expected the band to know what to play.

A real nutter, but a genius.

Very sad.
But he outlived so many musicians he had inspired.
He brought so many new things to Rock and Roll Music.
His humor, his sexual themed songwriting, the level of detail in his lyrics, his stage movement, his raw guitar sound.
The man was a blueprint and an inspiration for all music that came after him.
He was not the only great Rock and Roll star, but to me he will always be the true King of Rock and Roll.
Thank you for all the joy you brought me, Johnny Be Good.
Now I am going to listen to his music, drink some whiskey and probably cry a little.

Purely personal taste, but I think Johnny B Goode is the greatest rock n roll song ever written.

Promised Land has been covered by so many including Elvis that I didn't know it was his song too. What a writer.

One night a few months back i'd had one too many and my other half had gone to bed and I stumbled upon his live show from the early 70s on telly (BBC4 probably). I was blown away, so much charisma and stage presence, had the audience eating out of hands and his guitar playing and singing was brilliant.

brilliant hour long tribute on Gideon Coe's 6Music show just then..showed how hugely influential he was ......hadnt heard a few of the songs before and I thought I knew his catalogue .......included the gem 'You Cant Catch Me'...without which there'd be no Beatles Come Together....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P-QBfWTAAY

cracking tribute, well worth a listen

one thing people don't ever mention about chuck berry is his hilarious sex tape. don't get me wrong his musics great and he had a massive hand influencing the beatles so we have a lot to thank him for but that sex tape. bloody hell its mad. apparently our chuck had a thing for pissing on and farting in brasses faces. each to their own i suppose. his house got raided in the 80's on drug offences and the pigs found all these dodgy homemade sex tapes.

A hometown hero of mine, St. Louis and the world are a quieter and sadder place with out you.

He was playing weekly at Blue Berry Hill up until the last few months.

I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.
