What happens when I come into this thread? For me foreign is you Brits and Yanks. So Godfather is the greatest foreign movie of all time.  ;D

No Indian movie here I see, just not good enough, strange or poor quality? I do wonder time to time how our films are seen in Europe and USA. Anyone ever watched one? What did you make of it?
Lately some good small films are coming out in hindi-

Manorama Six feet under(chinatown inspired)
Dev D
LSD (Love, Sex or Dhokha)
Dhobi Ghat

Usually foreign ( i.e non English language) films on DVD deliver a consistent high quality...unlike Hollywood who put and promote any shit... companies who promote foreign films cut the wheat from the chaff.... recently I watched the excellent Argentinian cirme thriller "The Secret in their eyes"

Think it came on BBC4 a while ago.  Tried to watch it, but I just couldn't get into it

3 pages and no one has mentioned Betty Blue

Now, to be honest, it may be total total rubbish.

I don't remember really.

But I remember being a teenager arranging to watch it (probably on C4?) and it was wall to wall gash.

To me it lives in my memory as the greatest foreign language film ever.

Please don't tell me it was actually awful and destroy the memory :)

Der Untergang is brilliant, although certain characters (e.g. Mohnke) are treated more sympathetically than they perhaps deserve. Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex is also very, very good, as is Das Leben der Anderen

Breathless - Jean-Luc Godard (France)
Jules and Jim- François Truffaut (France)
Le Samourai- Jean-Pierre Melville (France)

Really want to see these, particularly Jules et Jim but all those French New Wave films.

Battle royale one of the best foreign films ive seen, then again i aint seen many.

One of my favourites too, excellent film.

As mentioned previously, South Korea has been making some excellent films like Park Chan Wook's Vengeance Trilogy, The Chaser, The Host and Hansel and Gretel.

Anybody seen John Woo's Hard Boiled? Meant to be a classic of Japanese Cinema.

Got Hard Bolied on DVD - high octance action is an understatement.  Saw Hansel & Gretel not long back on Film 4 - weird and enjoyable.  i have mentioned this before i think but Versus is a good action movie.

Cool, I might watch Hard Boiled tonight. Don't think I could stomach some of Takashi Miike films from what I've read about them. Though The Happiness of the Katakuris looks quite interesting.
