Match day - part 2

That top pic is great.
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Actually she was cooking us so many excellent Bacon rolls that she might end up in the Ham Museum - but no the bar was near the Praga ( about 1/2 Mile from the ground

Lomo bocadillos at 3 in the morning rock!
Can't believe she remembered Phil from the last time she was working there! Decent Spanish tapas bar that.

Fuckin ace wasnt it. <till I went under the table

Shame we didn't get a photo of that Harry, but a great memory.

The songs in there were great, but the girl whos place you stayed at (Moira?) was brilliant trying to get us to sing quietly because of the cop shop next door. Didn't stop us, but great effort.
Couldn't believe we left there at 4 a.m. Brilliant night, thanks for sorting the meeting out. Great bunch of Atletico and Madrid reds in there Harry.

I take it everyone who went thought their fans were boss like last year?
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Great to see that. Gutted couldn't go this year, last year's similar show of respect & friendship was what it's all about. Well done those who made it over there.

Not sure if anyone still has this thread saved, but worth going over again before the Madrid trip next week. Some absolutley brilliant memories, probably aided by this thread, as i can't remember half of what we got up to...

Anyone done the Atletico stadium tour? worth it? thinking of doing it this time round.
Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless,
who strove and worried so that others could share the glory,

This was some trip.  The footy match against their supporters, lunch with their fans before the game in the restaurant with the long table, the tit for tat song singing, the small bar on the way to the ground and then the game itself.  Fantastic.

Doesn't matter now, but did you go on the trip for the Real game on the 4th? Was going to try and meet up. Anyway, was quite a tight schedule with the three days there anyway. Wish id stayed longer, before the 4th. Oh, well if we get another trip in the next 5 years i will be happy.

Match day - part 2
Thinking of all our friends at the magnificent Vincente Calderon tonight in their last ever european game there...
In all the years loads of us have been travelling, this place is surely up there with the very very best...
Really hope they get close to turning Madrid over tonight as the place will be rocking....

Yes,

i do hope to see them all celebrating outside the Neptuno fountain tonight. That would be magnificent.

We've been to some great places over time and Madrid and with the Atleti contingent were definitely some of the most enjoyable

It would be worth it to see the look on Ronaldos face...

I don't think they are moving by choice. They have effectively been kicked out by the Mayor as they want to develop that area.

I was working in an office that overlooked the Bernabeu last week and you could just make out the crane on the horizon and the building site of the new stadium. Losing your stadium is one thing, but shifting it to out of town, I think you lose your soul. But as demonstrated so many times, this support dusts itself off and gets on with what they do best, supporting their club.

Last night all the Atleti fans stayed behind to congratulate their players. When Real came out again, all their fans had gone home. Joke of a club and terrible support.

Funny reading this thread back and comparing it to the stories Leicester fans were posting up. Liverpool are made for the champions league and what a treat it would be to face Atletico again on the way.

It is indeed a shame theyve had to leave the Calderon, other than Anfield its my favourite stadium and for atmosphere it is better than anywhere. The ground was rocking on wednesday and there was a definite sense of pride and defiance, as the banner before the game said "we're proud to be nothing like you". Alright they got knocked out but they gave it everything and won on the night, not a bad way to sign out at the Calderon.

Theres a bit of a myth that real madrid are the fascists and atletico are on the left. In reality Rayo are the only left wing club in the city. The ultras of atletico have at times got themselves in trouble over certain chants and banners however by and large theyre a class bunch. I suppose the problem with these ultras sections are that they dont always represent the majority of fans.
