I appreciate the gravity of the situation, but 28 years on? Why bother now? Far better to look to the future than stay in turmoil and feel hatred about things in the distant pass.
It's a bit like saying I'm not going to buy anything to do with BMW or Sony because of the German and Japan WW2 connection, sometimes you have to move on and forgive, but never forget.
I say this as a sikh who remembers the massacre of people I knew and loved in 1984 - for years I felt great anger about the killing of 10,000+ innocents by hard line Hindu nationalists, but I have learnt to not to forgive is counter productive to your own well being.
Never forget but forgive is a motto I live my life by.
I admire your philosophy
But what if you were blamed for the killings and the world was told that you had urinated on the dead, and that you stole from the bodies. And as a result everyone in your country shouted "murderer" at you.
Those bastards did what they did to sell more of their rag. They didn't give fuck then, and they don't now. They have taken McKenzie back on board, a gesture which I feel is in direct retaliation for the efforts of people in this city to make them accountable. The police apology was similarly a PR job given they lied all over again at the inquests.
I am all for forgiveness, but first they have to be sorry - and they are far from that.
If they shut up shop tomorrow, it would not move me one iota. They have caused too much hurt with their abuse of their power.
I too will never forget... but forgive? That is a long way off.
