You can break someones leg with a two footed tackle and your feet off the ground. Cole's tackle wasn't really dangerous and he made no contact with the player

Pedersen won't be spending too much time in hospital after last nights "punch".

Ah ok so it's the severity of the punch you are looking for.... so a punch that goes to the stomach and maybe the ribs is just a 1 match ban but a punch that fractures a jaw qualifies for a 3 match ban. Ok got it.

I love the Punch there in quotes like it wasn't really a punch.... more of a love tap...

Haha. Listen it was harmless. Nobody was hurt, it wasn't dangerous and forcing a player to sit out three games for it is outrageous - My opinion

Mate it sets the standard, punch someone and just receive a 1 match ban, not much of a deterrent is it?

Do you think if he got a one match ban, there would be players around the country thinking "now I can randomly go around punching people"? Barton didn't go out there with the intention to do that. Not many players would. So when a player does something like that it's instict and no matter what the ban is, it's not going to change what a player does in the heat of the moment.

Yeah but mate if you got a 3 game ban and possibly a big fine, do you think it would deter people from considering the options rather than just a 1 game ban?

"Considering the options"? What's that meant to mean?

As I said do you really think Barton was "considering" anything when he punched him?

Joey is bad example because lets face it he is reactionary and he doesn't much think about things.
Anyway mate whatever you think a 1 match ban is fine, that's your opinion, I think you are bonkers but that's my opinion. 3 match ban and a fine would be suitable for that behavior.

Precisely. It is violent conduct.

As for those who say it's not a big deal because it didn't hurt him, can I go out punching people tomorrow night and get off lightly because I don't cause an injury?

Well to be fair, what about Bosingwas double kick to the back of Benayoun last season? Which was reviewed and resulted in absolutely nothing, surprisingly.

I agree if it was anyone but Joey Barton it would be overlooked. it didn't look like much of a punch, and there is a difference between a punch in the face and in the chest

There is no difference Bosingwa should have got a 3 match ban plus a fine.

Dunno mate I wouldn't class Pederson in the same category as Brown myself. c*nt maybe but Brown goes out to hurt people. Whereas pederson probably just goes out there to wind them up.

Doesn't justify either though. And to be honest if Pederson just goes out there to wind you up then your more likely to twat him.

Newcastle United and Joey Barton have today accepted the FA's charge of violent conduct following Wednesday night's match with Blackburn Rovers at St. James' Park.

Barton said: "I fully accept that I was in the wrong on this occasion and accept the charge that the FA have brought against me. I would like to apologise to Chris Hughton, my team-mates, our supporters and of course to Morten Gamst Pedersen and Blackburn Rovers.

"This season I have really been enjoying my football and although I have been on the receiving end of a few robust challenges, I have, up until now, remained calm in the face of provocation and just carried on with the game. But I hold my hands up, I reacted badly to the situation on Wednesday night and I deeply regret it.

"I have been working very hard to keep that side of my game under control and I think it has showed in the way I have been able to get on and enjoy my football this season. I look forward to trying to get back into the team once my suspension is over and helping the club maintain its good start to the season."

Manager Chris Hughton added: "We accept the action taken by the FA, and it is of course disappointing to lose Joey for three games. He has worked so hard on his game this season, but he knows that he can't react the way he did on Wednesday."

Barton will now be suspended for the games versus Fulham, Bolton and Chelsea.

Speaking of shite tackles, has anything come of the attempted leg breaker by that Italian c*nt on N'Gog?
The one most important thing that we all must remember, in case it slipped our mind, is this club is much more important and bigger than anybody. I'll never forget that and anybody that does is being a wee bit irresponsible and stupid I think because the club is more important than any one individual. The Club is, The Club.

Anyone even attempting to make any sort of defence for Barton's behavior is deluded.

Watch the video again, before Pedersen drops like a sack of shit you can clearly see the initial, physical, reaction to Barton's punch.  He punched another player in the fucking chest, of course he deserves a ban.  Tackling is irrelevant to this debate, as it is an element of Football, punching someone isn't.

The only subject that should be up for debate is whether Barton's accumulative fuck-ups should be taken into account when punishing him.

That punch was just in between the ribs..that doesn't hurt so much but it certainly wind's a person and can take them down pretty easily. It could have been a lot worse..broken ribs, punctured lungs.

He is awfully lucky this matter ends here. Given his track record on and off the field, he is a very lucky boy Newcastle continue to put up with his nonsense.

A stupid thing to do from a player who should know better.

Maybe my sense of time is horribly wrong again but weren't those a couple of years ago? If so, then no. He should be punished for the punch and anything he has done recently can be taken into consideration but no need to rake up the past

Yeah, and also he didn't exactly follow through on the punch, it was a tap more like. Anyway, it's a shitehouse thing to do when a guy has his palms open and trying to reason with you. You get the feeling with Barton that he hasn't quite outgrown the 80s. Deserved ban but it's frankly stupid, more than anything.

Joey showing off his diplomacy skills again...

England will 'never win' the World Cup, says Newcastle's Joey Barton

• 'We're too focused on tradition in England,' says Barton
• Criticises Gareth Barry and national side's midfield

    Press Association
    guardian.co.uk, Thursday 7 April 2011 11.41 BST

Newcastle United's Joey Barton has said England will "never win" the World Cup, and dismissed Gareth Barry's role in the midfield as evidence of a lack of talent, in an interview with the French So Foot magazine.

"France killed us at Wembley," Barton said. "We English will play the next 50 World Cups and we'll never win one. The people in charge at the FA played football maybe 50 or 60 years ago and still think that we can win a World Cup in the same way we did in 1966.

"We're too focused on tradition in England, like always having to play 4-4-2. Sometimes you need to experiment, drop a bit deeper so you have more space to move into. France, Italy and Germany have done it. We've been doing the same thing for 20 years."

Barton won just one England cap, in 2007 against Spain, but still believes he has a role to play in Fabio Capello's team: "Honestly, I think I'm the best [English midfielder]. Luka Modric and Samir Nasri are very good, but in terms of English players ... Well, Jack Wilshere isn't bad, but Frank Lampard's on the way down and Steven Gerrard's been injured a lot."

He backed this argument, with criticism of Gareth Barry: "Did you see the game against Germany at the World Cup? If you watch the fourth goal, when [Mesut] Ozil was up against Barry, it was like the hare and the tortoise.

"Barry's got a very good agent. He's also discreet and always agrees with the manager. He's like the guy who sits in the front row and listens to the teacher. I certainly don't lose any sleep when I play against him."

He also emphasised the 2-1 defeat to France in November: "Look at Jordan Henderson [against France]," he said. "He was up against [Yann] M'Vila, [Mathieu] Valbuena, Nasri and [Yoann] Gourcuff. And he had Gareth Barry alongside him. What could they do against those players?

Nonetheless the player remains keen to lend a hand to Capello: "I'm English and I love playing for my country. Maybe the people at the top have a problem with me. I don't know. But the trouble I had was four years ago. They should be able to forgive, shouldn't they?" he said.

Barton also had a word of warning for his club as they attempt to thrash out a deal to keep him at St James' Park. The 28-year-old was understood to be ready to put pen to paper on a new deal in January when Tyneside was stunned as striker Andy Carroll was sold to Liverpool for £35m.

He and the and club have repeatedly spoken of their hopes of striking a deal since, although they are currently at odds over the length of the proposed contract. However, the player, who has been in superb form for Newcastle this season after coming to terms with the problems which have blighted his career to date, insists he will only stay if he feels the club is moving forward, and that means also tying up the futures of the likes of Jose Enrique, Cheick Tiote and skipper Kevin Nolan.

Spanish full-back Enrique, 25, has been linked with a move away from St James' for some time after excelling in the Barclays Premier League following a difficult start on Tyneside, while Nolan scored his 12th goal of the season in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Wolves.

I told them I might stay this summer because we have some good players and money to spend. But I'm going to wait and see if players like Kevin Nolan, Cheick Tiote and Jose Enrique stay. If Nolan signs a new deal, I will as well. But I hope the club step things up. I want to be ambitious and I think the club share that desire," he said.
